lol @ people saying this "led the Sox to victory and will lead to more wins"

Hope it leads them to more than 8, which is how long Youkilis will most likely sit out.

He's the team's best offensive and defensive player and he willingly removed himself from the pennant race for a week.

If the Sox lose the Wild Card you can look back to this as one of the key reasons. Remember how the offense struggled in May when Youk went on the DL? And that was when Bay was hitting.

Your know how emotions work, right?

"At some point you’ve got to protect yourself ...I let my emotions get the best of me... I don’t think there’s any plan when that happens. It’s just reaction. If I was an ultimate fighter, I think I’d have a plan." -- Youkilis on snapping after getting plunked

It will be time for the rest of the team to step it up, Drew, Bay, Pedroia, Martinez etc.

If we lose the Pennant race because of one player, we don't deserve to be in the race at all.

Fantastic post.

Again, calling Youk "selfish" because he lost it is textbook definition of stupidity.

He is a human being, he showed emotion as such.

I will say it yet again, ballplayers are not robots.

A lot of people here have played baseball, or at least softball, and i'm pretty sure they know how f***ing infuriating it is when you get hit, and multiply it by ten when you suspect it was done intentionally.

No one see's the similarities between this and when Tek gave A-rod a face full of glove in 2004? That was the turning point of the season then' date=' and I really do think this could do the same, Lowell is a great replacement to have, and he has been absolutely raking lately.[/quote']

No.

The turning point of that season was shipping Nomar's sorry ass out of Boston.

What good came out of it? If someone can show me one, ONE positive thing from here on out that came out of Youkilis charging the mound, I'll change my tune.

Yeah it got Porcello out of the game. Yeah, it made people cheer. BFD. This will hurt the team in the long run more than it helps.

The Red Sox are going to have to play Lowell at 3B for an extended period.

Ugh.

I don't think having to play a week of third base will kill Lowell's hip.

Really?

You wonder why he hasn't done it?

His replacement hit two home runs and carried the team to victory.

Because we haven't needed him to.

This is the point where Lowrie going back on the DL really hurts us.

And this was a direct result of Youkilis being tossed? Did he provide the "spark" that Mikey Lowell needed?

Sox go 0-6 on the road trip, you don't think they could have used Lowell in all six games?

If Youks isn't tossed, Lowell isn't in the lineup.

You asked, I provided.

We had a competent cadre of corner infielders with or without Lowell, and 3 of those games were played on turf, which you won't see Mike Lowell doing much of if the team has a choice.

Only 2, he played against Price.

Why couldn't he have played all the games at NYS?

Posted
Lowell not being in the lineup is on Francona.

Nonetheless. Lowell being in the lineup at the point where he hit those homers is a direct result of Youkilis being thrown out of the game. Wriggle and deny all you want to, that is the silver lining of the ejection.

Why are you asking me this? The last time I checked, my birth certificate did not read "Terry Francona."

I suspect though that they didn't push Lowell largely because they didn't have to. I don't think it'll kill Lowell to play a few consectuve days until they get Youks back.

OK, so now we get to see Lowell for 7-8 straight games at 3rd.

Can't wait to see that left side of the infield D.

Looking forward to it, really. People will forget all of their warm, fuzzy feelings about Youk being thrown to the ground like a bitch.

Have you seen Mike Lowell at 3B this year? His hip is being held together with Synvisc.

I already know the answer.

IT'S BECAUSE HIS HIP IS SHREDDED

And now we're going to ask him to play for a week straight? Hilarious.

You people are trying very hard to blame Youkilis for something that isn't necessarily his doing. Good luck with that.

I would have preferred t hard he not charged the mound myself, and those who want to claim that this is a mystical turning point are probably deluded, but if we sink because of Youks missing a week, we weren't the contenders we think we are anyway.,

Well what can I say? The guy I wanted wasn't the guy we got, and the guy I wanted would have been able to play third base.

What do you mean? Did someone else force Youk to charge the mound?

EDIT: you altered your post to tone down the angry rhetoric so I'm doing the same.

I don't want him to charge the mound in that situation either. But you can't blame him for doing it. The pitchers of the American League have been making a game of plunking him, it was a matter of time before he went off on one of them

Hard to use that line when you just typed this.

Someone forced Porcello to deliberately drill Youkilis? Porcello threw at Youks, no doubt in my mind. Sometimes you've just got to take the heat and do what you need to do to protect yourself.

What?

Porcello threw at Youks, no doubt in my mind. Sometimes you've just got to take the heat and do what you need to do to protect yourself

Youkilis made that decision, and his entire team will pay for it. His desire for revenge will sit him out for a week.

Posted

So it's Youkilis' fault Lowell is hurt? That's what I meant by "not necessarily his doing."

Personally I don't care if it does sit him out for a week. The message needed to be sent. And in your desperate quest to blame Youks for something you're overselling the extent of Lowell's injury. If he can't play a solid week of 3B he should be on the DL.
