I wonder what Theo has against shortstops, the idea of Nick Green Julio Lugo and Jed Lowrie as our guys to start the season was an disaster waiting to happen. Hanley is the face of the Marlins, they have a 30M payroll and a ton of young talent and may be just good enuff to get into a wildcard

what's your point?

I guess the point is we have had a top 5 payroll over the last 10 years and still havent found anyone decent to play shortstop for more than 1 season without Theo trading, waiving or refusing to resign the incumbent player..Why is this? Thats the most important spot defensively in the game and we dick around with it as if it didnt matter.

I'm leaning towards Hanley not being available.

Hardy I think will be much more attainable. And won't cost nearly as much. That will allow them to use the prospects they would have had to trade for Hanley, and bring in a big time SP instead.

Hardy has fallen off the face of the earth this year. I'd get off that particular bandwagon if I were you. He needs to reestablish his value before anyone should trade anything for him.

Personally, if there's any veracity to the rumor that Yunel Escobar is unhappy in Atlanta, that's the middle path guy I want to go for. solid D, solid OBP, bit of power, nice overall package for a SS.

Failing that, we could perhaps find a trading partner in Anaheim, they always seem to have a spare young middle infielder, that seems to be their draft preference.

Hmm.... going after Hardy as a low risk venture in the hopes that he reinvents himself might be a better idea than I was giving it credit for.

Mainly because in large part, the Sox pro scouting sucks. But you can't say they dick around as if it doesn't matter with the deals they gave to Edgar and Lugo.

Bosox21 definitely has a point. I think the last time we acquired for a high profile veteran and got the expected results was probably Schilling. Maybe Beckett, but we were sold on the Beckett deal as if we were getting an ace out of the box, and there's been a fair bit of assembly required.

I have a parking pass for tonight's game inthe Brookline/Maitland lot. Does anyone know where it is? I cannot find it on any of the map servers.

After some research, Maitland is off Beacon St. which connects off Brookline about two blocks away from Fenway
