I don't think that's nearly a good of a reason enough to justify the way he plays.

That being said, I believe that he's having a good season for the role that he's been thrust into. I believe Theo is more to criticize for not upgrading at SS this deadline.

With what?

Green is a backup, not a regular for this type of team. But then backup SSs are usually the good field, no-hit type, which Green is not. Theo has not had good luck at SS.

Orlando Cabrera would have been good' date=' but I can't blame him for wanting to go with Lowrie.[/quote']

Then you're contradicting yourself.

Why go for a marginal upgrade like Cabrera when we had Lowrie.

No one expected him to get injured again.

I was talking in hindsight.

I would have gone with Lowrie. Well, actually Hanley Ramirez.

Theo needs to sack up and match whatever Florida wants for Hanley.

why in God's name do people keep thinking Hanley Ramirez is available? He makes very reasonable money through 2011 and plays for a team about to open a new ballpark determined to put asses in the seats. You do that by trading the face of the franchise?

and on top of all that, Florida was/is well within striking distance of the WC and the division

The Marlins could build a contender by trading Hanley, and they know it.

Besides, you know how cheap they are.

The Marlins really aren't that far off and they only cheap out after winning a WS. Besides, they were BUYERS at the deadline so again I ask, why would they trade Hanley?

Because they could literally get enough pitching to become the powerhouse of that division.

They have enough solid young pitching that things could easily click all at the same time within the next two years. They trade Hanley and they have two hitters hitting above .280

Agree to disagree then.

I think they could be wowed with a good enough offer, you think they don't.

Simple as that.

I'm sure we have the pieces to get it done but I don't think Florida is of the opinion that trading Hanley at this point in their team's development is a good move

I think we don't have the pieces to make wowing them easy. We have great prospects, but not really any in positions they absolutely need.

We really need a solid, dynamic SS prospect to make the deal work. That isn't Lowrie, not after the injuries this year. Anderson, Reddick, Bowden, Kelly, is a rock solid trade offer but it doesn't match with Florida's current needs IMHO.

The Marlins are building a new stadium. At 11 mil per yr, an MVP caliber SS who is very young, Hanley is a bargain. The Marlins arent trading him unless they get blown away. And unless the sox are willing to deal away Pedroia or Youkilis or Lester, I dont see it happening.

Yes but you need to look at their GM's track record.

This is a team that refuses to spend, and Hanley would bring back enough young players to justify keeping that payroll as low as possible while fielding a very competitive team out there.

RE: Hanley

Wish in one hand, s*** in the other. Tell me which one fills first.

How 'bout some constructive posting, champ.

That post is a waste of bandwidth.

With all due respect, counting on Lowrey to be all that the Sox needed coming back from wrist surgery was just plain dumb. Contingency plans should have been made. Including keeping Julio Lugo on the roster. I really like Lowrey, but this will be a "lost year" (as Lou Merloni has said) for Lowrey.

Contingency plans WERE made. We went into the season expecting Lugo and Lowrie to be our shortstops. Green WAS the contingency plan.

People seem to be forgetting that Green was originally supposed to be the starting shortstop for the Pawtucket Red Sox. The fact that Lugo couldn't keep his job when competing solely against Green is another reason to hate the overpaid bastid.
