Papi's Boston's best hitter right now.

 

But how long will that last?

 

That's the million dollar question. Do they trade him? Or roll the dice that he continues to produce next year?

 

A lot will have to do with who gets +/- from the lineup this off season. If they add a couple hitters then maybe Papi's hot and cold swings won't have that much of an effect. If they keep the same basic lineup, will it be deep enough to off set a extended Papi slump?

 

The Papi issue will have some outside determining factors IMO.

I don't think his knee or wrist are bothering him right now. I always saw Ortiz as being somewhat mentally fragile and this season, that definitely showed.

It wouldn't be surprising if that was the case. He has been dominant since coming to Boston. Never really having a rough patch or and bad slump until last season and this season. This might be some of the first real adversity he has had to face of the course of the regular season.

And the whole "him being fragile" part is exactly what i was referring to.

 

The man looks every bit his '05, '06 self, let's ride the wave and hope it doesn't die out for a while.
