What's your vision for the pitching staff for the rest of the year? We have a good amount of depth so we have tons of options.

Beckett, Lester, Buchholz, Penny, Smoltz, Wakefield as the long relief bullpen guy

Beckett, Lester, Buchholz, Penny, Bowden, Wakefield and Smoltz both out

Just a few..there's obviously other options but I think Beckett, Lester and Buchholz are gonna be our big dogs for the rest of the way. Buchholz has to step up. We need somebody to fill Masterson's long relief role in the bullpen. What do we do?

I like the 2nd option. I don't like having 2 unproven pitchers carrying our rotation the rest of the way in Buchholz/Bowden.

However, during the waiver trading period, I see CK + someone else being spun for a back of the order starter or something. I don't think our pitching is set for the long run just yet.

I like the 2nd option as well.

I don't see a lot of SP making it through waivers though.

Why do people keep saying Kotchman is going to be traded? He needs to clear waivers for any deal to be made.

Does that necessarily make it impossible?

I don't like any of these options. I think they need Dice K to come back strong and take the 3rd slot in the rotation in September. I'd slot Wake 4th and Penny 5th. Until Dice K comes back, I'd give Smoltz one or two more starts to keep his spot. If he continues to suck, Buchholz gets the spot.

I have to agree here. Although, I have my doubts about Dice-K's ability to get back AND make a strong showing. I love Wake, and I hope he can return as the pitcher that he was before he was "injured".

In the mean time, Smoltz will likely continue to toil and Buck will hopefully gain experience and settle in as a solid starter as a 4 or 5.
