I'm glad he's back. I hope he does not look foolish. I don't think he will.

I expect that our Administrator will provide some timely reporting on his efforts.

A news source with access to the pitching session with the Pedro reported he hit 93 several times during said session, and even hit 94 once.

I love this guy but the last time I saw him pitch was in a crucial game against Pittsburgh and he didnt survive 3innings...He has the fire in his belly but his arms and legs havent been there in years.

I also think he was a user, the 99 allstar game hurt him forever and inspite of having some of the best years in pitching history immediately following his velocity never approached pre all star game status.

Why Philly? I wouldve thought LA wouldve been a better fit for him with the bigger park and a the huge latino fan base they have out there, this cant be about the money.

Interest.

Pedro's a proud guy and as soon as Philly started giving him superstar treatment (in his mind) as in the brass actually coming to DR to see him, it was a no-brainer for him, since that was the team that was willing to give him a shot while giving him the respect he "deserves".

there were four teams who went to see him workout in the DR and most of them walked away right after it. I doubt he was hitting 94

He wasn't "hitting 94" he hit it once, maybe twice. (According to sources).

But the problem was never his velocity, since obviously anything above 91 is being thrown at or close to 100%, the problem was the ridiculous contract demand.

I was just checking the waiver wire in one of my Fantasy Leagues and I just noticed Pedro's stats:

Year Team INN GS W L S K BBI HA ERA WHIP
2009 PHI 23.0 5 3 0 0 23 3 22 3.52 1.09

What jumped out at me was 23 k's and 3 walks. His 1.09 WHIP jumped out at me too. Lesser league or not, these are really nice numbers. Can he be consistent, which is always the issue with a post surgical pitcher.

I still wonder why the FO chose to pay Smoltz $5.5 million when Pedro was one year further removed from surgery and he'd pitched well in the WBC. Pedro would have to have been a better mid-year replacement than Byrd.
