And how does that add up from a business and team improvement standpoint?

But we have a 103 million dollar investment in him that the team will not simply swallow.

They where willing to swallow Renteria and Lugo's deals. About 30M. They owe Dice-K about 30M in salary. The posting fee is what it is. I'm sure they have recouped some of this already. And I'm sure Tazawa will help keep them up in the Asian market.

It wouldn't be easy. But I don't believe Dice-K to be "untouchable".

In fact the only players on the team that probably are untouchable are Pedroia, Youk, Lester, Beckett and Bard.

That's not what you said though. You said he'd be traded, not that he could be traded and it would be difficult to trade him.

There's a large difference.

So was Pedro.

Is this supposed to be funny or something?

Did it make you laugh?

And Clemens' date=' and Schilling, etc.......[/quote']

You guys are seriously comparing Dice-K to Pedro, Clemens and Schilling?

I'm not suggesting we should get rid of Dice-K, I'm just stating that he isn't untouchable. Also, Dice-K isn't exactly the best comparison to Pedro, Clemens, etc. Those guys were the very best pitchers in baseball (history) and didn't have performance problems while with us. Dice-K is having some serious problems with his shoulder/attitude. Even when he dominated, he was still only going 5 or 6 innings.

I'm not saying he isn't going to have a good future ahead of him, I'm just saying there have been major bumps in the road.

He is untouchable.

Because the Sox aren't gonna sell him for a bag of potato chips, which is about what they'd be able to get right now.

I'm not suggesting they trade him right now. I think the only reasonable way he gets traded is if he comes back strong at the end of the year. Then there may be some interest in him during the off season.

I don't think he gets traded, but that doesn't mean the Sox would refuse to trade him.

Fair enough. I say he be traded because the writing seems to be showing up on the wall. Especially with all these new interviews. But I admit this could all blow over, and he could come back to be a quality pitcher.

Let me ask you this though, Do you expect him to finish out his contract in Boston if he continues to pitch like he has this season?

I just think that if a deal came along that worked well for the Sox that $ should not be a concern or a deterrent to dealing him. I'm not saying trade him for some middling "Dojji" type prospects or a bag of balls. But if he could bring in someone of significance then it should be considered.

Farrell: 'There's no openness'

Posted by Ben Collins, Globe Correspondent July 28, 2009 05:45 PM

Red Sox pitching coach John Farrell tersely shot back at Daisuke Matsuzaka's public disagreement with the Red Sox' shoulder conditionining program for the second time today.

"Do I think he's more open? No. This couldn't be any further from it," said Farrell. "There is no openness.

"There's been a lot of conversation back and forth. Thoughts have been exchanged. The disappointment comes from him airing his dirty laundry," said Farrell.

Farrell also disagreed that Matsuzaka's suggestion of throwing more pitches would have any positive effect on his shoulder.

"The rigors of this schedule presents energy and taxation regardless of where you're from," said Farrell. "The body needs a recovery and recuperation period. It comes to a point of diminishing returns when you pile on volume.

"If you're going to throw 115 pitches, you've got to go out and be effective. At some point there's got to be some accountability and responsibility from the player," said Farrell."

--------------------------

Damn, this is the last player I would have expected any controversy from/about.

The airing in the media is surprising.

Tomorrow, in the Globe, I'm sure Dan Shank will be ripping Dice-K a new one.

No I'm not missing the point. Pedro could be a pain in the ass. But he produced at an elite level.

Dice-K is being a pain in the ass cry baby because no one here in America is stroking his ego anymore. There trying to make him change so he is effective here. And he is having issues with it.

Listen Kilo and Dipre. I'll drop the hole Dice-K thing once and for all. But if I turn out to be right about him being traded before his contract is up in Boston, I'll want to some credit;)

Not the first time Boston has taken it by the horns when a player has gone to the media to air their grievances.

I have yet to see a relationship between team and player really be salvaged once it's hit this point. I mean they can "stay together for the sake of the kids" or something for a few years (see: Ramirez, Manny) but generally it pretty much means the guy is gone sooner rather than later.

Personally I think Daisuke gets a chance to come back in September and earn himself some trade value and get back in our good graces but he's pretty much counting down the time until he leaves.

Hard to argue with that. Although flying might be faster.

Boy, how this team can do without Dice-BB. I just really don't miss him at all. When he's been bad(this year), he just loads the bases and makes innings last an eternity lasting only 4/5 innings. When he's been good, he's still loaded the bases and walked the whole team but has had a horseshoe permitting him to get free without harm with the help of high run-support.

I'm all for shopping him especially knowing that there's kids like Buchholz and Bowden waiting for full time positions. Forget talking about consistency, he just doesn't get through innings efficiently. On top of that, I'm sure there are some teams out there who would be willing to take the risk and big salary.

Posted
Is Dice-BB supposed to be funny?

Oh it really doesn't matter. I've just lost all reasons to call him Dice-K. And plus, it makes him sound dominant...wouldn't want to fool some people.

Posted
I like Dice BB, very original and quite fitting.

Good to see the kids getting along, lots of frustration on board

Believe it or not it was actually a Twins fan who first threw that one out and then I thought "gee, why didn't I ever think of that?". Before that I used to call him Walkuzaka...I know not as good...

What really gets me mad about the whole Dice-BB situation is just the ridiculous sum we payed to speak with him. That's superstar/ace money and the guy is barely a good enough 5th starter. It's sad, pathetic and laughable for any other team looking in. I actually take back what I said before- I don't know how many teams would take him on for much value. He just doesn't show any signs of being a good pitcher now. Buchholz' start last night, however rocky it might've been, was better than Dice-BB's...and that's pretty sad. At least he only walked 2, earned 2 runs and almost made it to 6 innings...

20M per for DiceK when you do the entire package.

It still startles me when I see his 08#s, I dont know how a guy can win 18 games while never seeing the 7th inning and having 100 pitches thrown by the 4th inning.
