Lowell continues his pedestrian May. I am surprised he has almost no plate discipline this yr. He's walked 6 times and has an Isopatience of .030. To put that into perspective' date=' that is worse than Cano's thus far.[/quote']

Pedestrian? Unspectacular, maybe. But he brings very solid D every night. Decent hitting at the moment. Good offensive production overall. And he is a good person. No needles in his locker.

He's been awful offensively in May.

So. What do you propose? He is the best option and overall a solid contributor over the entire season.

Lowell hasn't seemed awful to me. Not as good as last month, but not terrible. You guys have to find something to nitpick don't you?

And that pitcher is kinda goofy looking.

.265 with a .700OPS. Like I said before, it is very strange for Lowell who typically walks about 50 times a yr. As it stands right now, he is on pace for 23 walks in a 600 PA season.

I'm in awe of your statistical knowledge. I don't know this stuff. Sometimes statistics just are not relevant. He is the Sox 3rd baseman. Period. I'll take him any day. Best defensive 3rd bagger in a Sox uni since Joe Foy or George Scott. I look at the aggregate. 21 days of May is not a legitimate sample. But I respect your knowledge and opinion.

I agree, it is very, very early. But it is an interesting thing to look at, because of the fact that he's typically patient.

BTW, Carlson was a very good HS pitcher. Played with and against him. He had a ridiculous 2 seamer at that time.

I look at stats now and then but stat-geeking isn't my thing. But I also appreciate those who like to do so.

I do wish I could see a game at Fenway tho....

What is with NESN and the Dunkin' Donuts. We laugh at Dunkin' Donuts over here.

Dn'D is huge in Ma. It is based here and is a major advertiser, particularly with the Sox. Decent coffee, but mediocre doughnuts (donuts).

Maybe his May can be interpreted as a normal blip during the season.

I think we have 3 Dunkin Donuts here, within a 50-100 mile radius. Not sure tho.

well' date=' maybe, maybe not. Lowell typically is a terrible second half player. But his april also lacked patience this yr too. It may be a new trend.[/quote']

Do you believe that any of this can be attributed to his hip? Or age?

He's "terrible"? Over his career the split is .840/.760. One is better than the other, but the other is above average, which is a far cry from terrible.

You are big on these "trends", so long as it's someone on this team trending in the wrong direction or someone on your team trending in the right direction. I don't recall any "trends" as Pedroia or Youkilis got better over successive years. No, it was, "they set career highs that aren't sustainable". Funny how that works.

EDIT: Spudboy, it's cool if you aren't that into stats, but do not listen to this guy if you are interested in learning more.

Lets look at his post ASB OPS's over the last 4 yrs

2008- .643

2007- .890

2006- .739

2005- .693

3 of those 4 are under the average he put up for his career.
