Foulke could not pitch in 2007, he gave up the money.

Schilling could not pitch in 2008, didn't give up the money.

Whether or not either can make a comeback after those dates is irrelevant.

Correct, but these are facts too:

Schilling tried to pitch in 2007.

Foulke did not try to play.

Look, it boils down to me for this:

Foulke made the decision that he couldn't pitch. He gave up

Bingo.

Schilling did everything he could possibly do to fulfil his contract. Foulke did not.

Schill got paid. Foulke did not.

THESE are the facts.

Foulke could have tried to live up to his contract, didn't, and chose to not take the $5 million.

We're supposed to praise Schilling for not throwing an inning and pocketing $8 million?

No one is praising Schilling, but Foulke doesn't deserve praise for not trying to play and not getting paid.

Why, though?

He recognized he couldn't go and didn't pocket the money when he very well could have. That's it.

...and I could have taken a case with a fat retainer, but I didn't so i didn't get paid. Praises? I don't think so. If I tried the case and lost and gave back my fee because i did a s***** job, that would be praiseworthy. Does the distinction escape you... seriously?
