Who am I going to blame on the offense? Michael Ryder? Lucic for waiting til Game 5 to show up? Stone Hands Kobasew?

Sometimes you need your goalie to bail the offense out. To let that kind of goal in with the season on the line...infuriating.

gotcha , its all TT's fault for not making 4 shutouts in this series

Don't mind Kilo. He's just afraid that somehow the fact that we have Tim Thomas on the roster automatically means Kessel will leave. It's warping his thinking.

Strawman. I already acknowledged the fact he had a good series (in the games we won and Gm. 7 anyway) but am only stating that the type of goal he let in during the OT is indicative of his style and a mark against him when it comes to being one of the best in the game.

If it's not Kessel, it's the depth, which is a pretty big knock as well.

I'll believe that Chia can sign TT, Kessel, Krejci, Bitz, and Hunwick when it happens - and not a second earlier.

that was a terrible way to end the game, the series and the season. a s***** rebound with someone flying towards the net. there's no disputing that.

Some of us said all along, despite how well Thomas played in the regular season, that he was prone to a softie in a key spot at times. While Wideman did a lousy job of checking Walker, Thomas did make the mistake we feared.

In fairness, he did play very well throughout the playoffs...but the game 7 gaffe is undeniable.

His salary next year, IIRC, is $6m, then it goes $6m, $5m, $3m. From the Globe back when the deal was announced:

"When a player signs a new deal after his 35th birthday, per the collective bargaining agreement (CBA), although he can be bought out (at a two-thirds reduction in pay), his cap number can not be deleted from the club's salary commitments.

For next year, and for either two or three more years, Thomas will be on Boston's books for some $5 million a year. But because he has signed the deal before age 35, the Bruins have the safeguard -- that they would want to execute it -- to be able to buy him out at any time, cut their dollar commitment by one-third, and be able to spread the payments over twice the remaining term of the deal. It is a significant safeguard."

I suspect that he is their #1 guy for the next 2 yrs with Rask starting to play more as time goes on...then if Tim is getting long in the tooth. look for them to buy him out after the 2010-2011 season. Problem is...does anyone see the Bruins winning a cup with Thomas in net? We're not the Red Wings you know.

Short answer: Yes

Long answer: Yes, if untimely injuries don't sap our talent at critical positions and leave others exposed by a sudden lack of depth. we were very shallow, slow and sore at D during Game 7 and it showed. The best goalies in the world let up troubling shots when they get exposed and exhausted.

The real problem this year was Manny Fernandez. Tim Thomas has never been a guy who could start 7 straight games and be fresh and chipper in Game 7. He relies too much on energetic plays for that. Manny Fernandez NEEDED to be a factor in the playoffs like he had in the regular season, but his performance down the stretch made it clear Julien couldn't count on him. Thus, Thomas gets all the starts, and in overtime of his 11th straight start he makes a tired man's mistake.

If we have Rask on the roster next year, and Thomas falters, we can maybe count on Rask to Cam Ward us through the playoffs.
