LB is weak and so is DB. Maybe out of all those guys they find two that can play corner. And lets hope Chung can displace Meriweather, because he's a true bum.

LB we are pretty much set on... anyways, we did draft a LB, Tyrone McKenzie. More importantly, though, I believe the Hobbs trade was in part to clear up a little cap space to get Jason Taylor.

We improved our defense greatly with Chung and Butler, we already have some youth (Mayo, Crable, and Meriweather). Our secondary was addressed with Bowden and Springs. We now also have Wheatley, Wilhite, Richardson, and obviously Butler. SS, in addition to Meriweather, we brought in Tank Williams.

On the offense, We now have a scary good WR core, now with the additions of Galloway and Lewis. We are already set for RB with Fred Taylor, Maroney, Morris, BJGE, and Faulk.

We may very well use Tate (WR) as the kick returner now that Hobbs is gone.

When you have soo many draft picks, you can use one on a long snapper (and he's the best).Optimism is good. Pat's rule.

A lot of people were also surprised with the 3 O-line selections. Vollmer, who was taken in the second, is a freak of nature. 6-8, over 300lbs, and quick with fast foot work. I believe 10 of the 13 O-liners have contracts that expire after this season. BB is probably stocking up to prepare to let some of them walk.

Again, I think we will go get Jason Taylor. Don't forget all the injuries we had last year. AD will be back. Seriously though, whats wrong with Mayo, AD, Crable, Guyton, and Bruschi? If they were to add Taylor, then that is just plain nasty. Add in the DE, Warren and Seymour, that's pretty sick.

DB, I just don't see you can think its weak. Is it the best in the leauge?, probably not. But it doesn't have to be. It DEFINITELY has the potential to be a great unit in the future. I wouldn't be surprised to see Butler to make an immediate impact, but Bodden, Springs, Wilhite, and Wheatley is a good group. Young, fast, and a ton of potential.

I'm not sure Chung will displace Meriweather. Meriweather is a good SS with a ton of potential. I wouldn't be surprised to see Chung start at FS over Rodney Harrison and take his starting job. Chung is very versatile.

You can't have a team that has the best units at every position. We have an offense that should be at least as good as 07, while the defense has gotten a whole lot younger and better.

Seriously, what other team is in such good a position right now?

Jason Taylor is going back to Miami.

The fact that Bruschi will be back in the lineup next year is a complete and utter failure by the Patriot's FO.

I said in the other thread Butler will be the best player that Pats drafted but I wouldn't count on an immediate impact next season.

This team still hasn't shown me that it can put any kind of pressure on the QB.

And if you think this offense will return to 2007-level after Brady's horrific kneww injury, well I think the naivete on display is pretty cute.

Pats would have taken Harvin if he was availabe:

http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/43751632.html

Chad O'Shea, who was a Vikings offensive assistant for three years before joining the New England Patriots as their wide receivers coach in February, might have inadvertently helped Minnesota get Florida wide receiver Percy Harvin with the 22nd overall pick in the first round of the NFL draft.

The Patriots worked out Harvin the day after Vikings coach Brad Childress visited him and indicated to Harvin they would draft him.

"New England was right in there. They were right behind us [with the 23rd pick]," Childress said. "No, they didn't think we'd take him [because of off-the-field] issues. Remember, they have our receivers coach there now. So they thought they could hold ... and he'd come to them.

"They were down there working him out the day after I was there. And [Harvin] wasn't supposed to tell anybody, and I was trying to pull that out of him, who that was. So, it was a little cat-and-mouse game that occurred."

Pittsburg?...

id sooner and would much rather admit my sexual desires for a man than admit i was from pittsburgh but i believe we've discussed this before.

The facts are the pats Defense isnt better and they didnt get a guy who can kill the clock by carrying the ball 25xs a game either, if we had dillon in 2006-7 we may have won both years instead of losing both season ending games cause we couldnt burn the clock out.

The Pats will score a ton this year but the Guru himself, BB, is like Bobby Fisher.

He sees matchups that will occur 3 years from now and plays the draft and money game as good as anyone..We dont know why he does what he does but theyve been a top 5 team now since 2001 and theres no reason they wont be next year either.

In fact both Pitt and NE are going to be there in the end just as theyve done so this entire century.

Both clubs are well run and have managed to stay competetive even with the albatross of the salary cap hanging over their heads.

The smart money has the Pats going all the way with the rest of the NFL being an aftter thought, i dont agree with this assessment but im not holding all that patriot money either.

This is an offshore site as opposed to a boston based shop so the lines are essentially as accurate as can be without the Boston twist being in play.

I don't get where all this talk about us needing to bolster up our running game is coming from. The Patriots were 6th in the league in rushing yards per carry (4.4). They were also 6th in total rushing yards gained (2,278). That was without Brady. Now, with Brady back, and with the addition of Taylor, how can anyone think we can't be at least as productive?

Seriously people, do your research. The Patriots were ranked 13th in rushing yds/carry (4.1) and obviously had far fewer total yards, ranked 13th (1849). Consider that the offense was often in the shotgun and very pass happy and you will see just how much our running game improved in 08.

The biggest hole we had last year (besides Brady and the injuries) was the secondary. That was addressed. We didn't get much pressure on the QB, not because of our front 7 personnel, but because of 1. injuries (AD gone) and 2. The secondary. Now that BB has corners that can actually cover 1 on 1, expect to see a ton more exotic blitzing schemes. That's EXACTLY what happened towards the second half of last season, when Wilhite and Weatley were playing fairly well, and we were able to put a lot more pressure on QBs.

I also don't see why we shouldn't expect Brady to come out firing. It's not like Manning last year, were he missed the preseason and had pretty much no rehab time. He isn't a QB that is going to go running all over the place, he's a pocket passer.

After all these years, I think we should trust BB judgment...

The offense won't be 07 like. But I would imagine it to be better then last season. And last season it was nothing to sneeze at. The addition of Taylor and Galloway add solid veteran depth. And Tate may not contribute this season, but could be productive down the road if he keeps his s*** together of course.

The defense was old and slow last season. They have done a decent job of adding some good pieces to help. Springs is a solid DB. But he is getting up there in age and can't afford to lose many steps. Chung, Butler and Mckenzie all look to have potential. But only time will tell.

Don't disagree too much, but if he's the #1, whoever picks second should look long and hard at George Selvie.

Yeah, he's pretty sick.

I think Bradford goes #1, because he's a QB.
