Hard to believe it's right around the corner. What are everyone's thoughts about how the 1st round goes, where do the bigger name players go?

My big move of the day is someone maybe the Jets moving up to 9 or higher to get Mark Sanchez. I can't see the 49ers letting him go bye at 10.

Maybe the Skins jump up for Sanchez, putting the Pack at #13+ another pick. Orakpo might be cheaper if out of the top 10. or maybe they go someone else all together. Mcshay's newest Mock on Espn has the Packers taking Orakpo LOL

Everything I've seen points to the Patriots drafting one of the USC LB's(Mattews and Cushings). Cushings seems to be the better player now, but has had injury issues. Matthews has the pedigree, but ultimately only started 1 year on D, producing decent numbers. Maybe they will go with the versatile Darius Butler, good CB/WR/KR.

Not with the way ESPN talks about it for like 10 minutes on EVERY SportsCenter for the last 2.5 months. God forbid they talk about sports that they don't broadcast on their network, that are actually in season...

Maybe they are talking about it a lot where you are, but it crept up on us outside of the US:D

should be an interesting first day. This draft is loaded so there will be a lot of teams wanting to trade down, probably a lot of action between 20 and 40.

I cut to espn couple weeks ago. And there was clock ticking down from 5 minutes, in Bold was Dolphins on the Clock

I was like "what am i missing out on the draft" Nope just pre-draft hype

I have preferred NFLN's coverage in the past, so I will be staying away from ESPN.......besides, Mel Kiper's hair scares me!

This draft isn't loaded, in fact many have called it the weakest in years.

There is a lot of quality in this draft. But no Big name super star like in years past.

So what's everyone top 5/top 10?

1. Detroit- Jason Smith

2. St. Louis- Matthew Stafford

3. KC- Tyson Jackson

4. Seattle- Mark Sanchez

5. Cleveland- Michael Crabtree

6. Cincinnati- Eugene Monroe

7. Oakland- Andre Smith

8. Jacksonville- Jeremy Macalin(first spot I see a trade possibly happening, someone could move up for Curry).

9. GB- Aaron Curry

10. SF - B.J Raji

11. Buffalo- Aaron Maybin

12. Denver- Brian Orakpo

But that's only if there is no trades. And we all know there is more then likely chance there could be movement.

1) Why in god's name would the Rams take Stafford if they won't have a tackle worth s*** to protect him?

2) Since in your scenario Eugene Monroe would still be there at 3, why on earth wouldn't KC take him? They just acquired Cassel, Monroe and Albert would make an excellent bookend tackle combination, and they have enough other pieces (Waters, Gonzalez, Charles, Johnson, Bowe) to make that offense pretty good this season should this scenario present itself.

3) Oakland is fine at the tackles, they signed Erik Pears and Khalif Barnes, and Mario Henderson figured to be a starter anyway. Its the guards where they need help. Even then, if B.J. Raji is available there, they have to pounce on him.

4) Jacksonville just signed Torry Holt, meaning WR isn't nearly as big a need as it was before. They're another team that should jump on Raji if he falls to them. Maclin's overrated anyway, the only reason he's this high on draft boards is because almost every team above like 15 has receiver problems.

5) Green Bay is switching to a 3-4. Unless A.J. Hawk is staying outside (which I seriously doubt since he weighs less than 250 lbs and is probably better suited to coverage anyway), they have no business taking another middle linebacker.

Because he probably won't play this season, so need to worry about protecting him yet.

Because Monroe isn't worth the #3 Pick.

If they take anyone outside of an OT, it will be Maclin, Al Davis lusts for the deep threat:D

Holt is a nice addition, but they are still weak at WR. But I agree they could go Defense, or like I proposed earlier, the might trade down.

Sat what you want about GB. But if Curry falls to them, he is a valuable pick there.

Listen my list isn't concrete, it's one of numerous possible scenario's.

If it were Crabtree we were talking about I could see Al Davis pulling the trigger, justifiably. But Jeremy Maclin at 7 when the Raiders have numerous other needs and options? What a bed-s***ing that would be.

How is Curry valuable if he's a 3-4 MLB being drafted to a team that already has Nick Barnett and A.J. Hawk there (unless Hawk stays outside, which I doubt).

Monroe is absolutely worth the #3. Defensive end is a small area of need for the Chiefs; Monroe and Curry would both take priority over Tyson Jackson I would have to think.

St. Louis could have a line, this season, of Smith/Monroe, Bell, Leckey, Brown, and Barron. If that unit stays healthy, they can protect Bulger reasonably well and maybe have a decent season. QB is not an urgent area of need. If Detroit passes on Stafford, he automatically falls to at least Seattle, and Sanchez likely ends up a 49er.

It's hard to argue with that. In fact I could see it going that way. I guess I tried to make my top 10 look different then what the majority has gone with.

I still don't think Monroe is worth the 3rd pick. But that's just MO.

If Stafford goes to Seattle I think someone moves up ahead of SF to get Sanchez. Possibly the Jets. But if Sanchez is available to SF at #10, I think they take him in a heart beat. All that action would allow Crabtree to fall to Cleveland at #5 as well. Then you might see a Braylon Edwards deal happen before the end of the first round.

This is what makes the NFL draft fun:D

Ok after some more reading of various outlets, I'm ready to go for my top 10 draft 2.0!(feel free to ignore this, I'm really bored)

1. Detroit- QB Matthew Stafford(It sounds like Detroit could get a deal done pre draft)

2. St. Louis- OT Jason Smith

3. KC- OT Eugene Monroe(did a little more research on him then before, better then my 1st estimate)

4. Seattle- QB Mark Sanchez

5.Cleveland- LB Aaron Curry

6. Cincinnati- OT Andre Smith

7. Oakland- WR Jeremy Maclin(Al Davis is in love with this kids speed, enough said)

8. Jacksonville- DT B.J. Raji

9. GB DE/OLB Brian Orakpo

10. SF- WR Michael Crabtree( Crabtree falling to 10 would be a very good value pick for SF, possible trade up from maybe Denver(12) to get Crabtree? I know they need Defense, but they need some WR's too.

If Seattle passes on Mark Sanchez, then the #8 pick becomes huge with teams like NYJ, Washington, Denver maybe trying to trade up for Sanchez.

There isn't that 'can't miss' prospect out there like Manning was. However from everything I have seen and heard it's a deep and loaded draft. I remember hearing an interview with BB a few months back where he talked about the draft and said this year was different in that you will be able to get the same talent at 40 that you can at 20 (just less of a pool to choose from at 40).

Why would Denver move up for a WR? They have Marshall and Royal. Both young and both potential game changers.

Marshall is an off field disaster, and you never know if he will be allowed to play. Just saying it's a possibility, if the move up it's probably because Sanchez is available.

Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry is willing to accept less money from the Lions than Michigan left tackle Jake Long received last year from Miami to be the No. 1 pick in the draft, according to an interview he gave Tuesday on Sirius NFL Radio.

Wonder if this changes anything for Detroit? If Curry goes 1st, the draft could really get crazy.

Yeah, he's an off field headcase. There, I just described at least 1 WR for every team.

Moving on.

Not to keep pestering you, but if Al Davis has his choice between Crabtree and Maclin, why would he take Maclin, providing he's guaranteed to take a receiver (which he isn't)?

Also, if Mark Sanchez is around at #10, San Francisco would grab him in a split second. That's their only dire area of need (Shaun Hill sucks), they aren't great at WR, but they aren't nearly bad enough where it merits filling that need over QB.

And I'll ask you, when recently has Al Davis every done the smart thing?

From what I have read he has fallen in love with Maclin's speed and his ability to stretch the field. Factor in Al Davis logic, and he's the #7 pick.

And Sanchez won't be available at #10, the lowest he goes is #8 or #9someone will trade with the Jaguars or Packers to get him if he is still on the board.

Ya but will the be suspended? Marshall most likely will be. And there is no guarantee Marshall or any other WR of the current roster will be able to pick up Mcdaniels system. So even if they are good, they where drafted for the old system, not the current one.

Besides that was only a big what if. I think Denver will be drafting D with their first 2 picks(or trading up for Sanchez).

That's a good point, Al Davis and common sense completely contradict each other.

I said if he's on the board. I don't think they're bound to take Crabtree anyway, I'd go for the d-lineman or an edge rusher.

Well on the Friday before the Draft, the majority of outlets have the top 10 picks going something like this,

Detroit- Stafford

STL- J. Smith

KC- Aaron Curry

Seattle- Mark Sanchez

Cleveland- B.J. Raji

Cincinnati- Eugene Monroe

Oakland- Jeremy Maclin

Jacksonville- Andre Smith

GB- Brian Orakpo/Tyson Jackson

SF- Michael Crabtree

There is buzz that Curry already has a deal in place with Detroit. Could throw a monkey wrench in. A lot of trade talk in as well so the 1st round could go a lot differently.

Posted
I think the deal is Curry has a contract with Detroit but if the Lions reach an agreement with Stafford, the Lions take the QB.

Agreed.

I think Curry is the safer pick. You wiff on Stafford as a GM, thats your job in 2-3 years.

There gonna suck no matter what and be at the top of the draft next year. I'd rather take a shot on Bradford or McCoy. Or maybe Teabow as well.

Posted

They really should take a tackle, Curry's good but not the answer either.

Thing is, Lions fans won't go for that after an 0-16 season, they need a sexy pick.
