If the yankees win today, then the magic number is down to 5. That means, the yankees can go 4-5 over the last 9 games and the sox would have to win every one of them to take the division. I agree with Girardi here. Get the guys ready for the dance.

As for Burnett, he was really good today. Would have loved to see more length, but I understand why Girardi pulled him. Two good starts in a row is a nice thing to see from our #2 starter.

If he wants to sit the guys, that's fine. But you just cannot play Shelley Duncan in a fairly spacious outfield.

Rivera should in this game. In the postseason, they're going to rely on Rivera for more than three outs. Might as well let him do it before the postseason, at least a couple of times.

EDIT: Somehow, someway, they still lead.

Why lol?

Mark Teahen is a force of nature.

Got to love the Yankees line up today.

I sure do enjoy these meaningless September games alot more than the ones we were playing last year...

While I agree with that, last night wasn't the time to do that. Rivera just pitched 2 games in a row, why put him out there again last night for more than in inning? Tonight I would have no objections though.

This was not about last night's game. I believe I said this during last Wednesdays game against the Angels.

It's nice to see all the swings and misses AJ is getting, but he is also throwing way too many pitches. A-Rod cost him that inning with some poor defense, or he wouldn't have given up a run and his pitch count would be considerably lower.

Yanks better be careful or they won't make it to the play offs ;)

Wow, Phil Coke is an absolutely brutal fielding pitcher. He took his time to field the bunt, losing any chance to get the runner. And then that...

EDIT: I understand that the game doesn't mean anything, but what an awful inning.

They will need Burnett to pitch like this if they expect to win it all.

Doesnt that frighten you ball tugging, Avon wearing yankee fans just a little bit?

No. He's done it his last 4 or so outtings.. he had a bump in the road. He's over it. I think theres a lot more question marks for the sox rotation / pen than the yankees right now...

What we've seen from Burnett lately has been positive (three good outings in a row), but you have to keep in mind that two of them were against the Mariners and the Royals. Those are, quite possibly, the two worst hitting teams in the AL. You're kidding yourself if you don't think Burnett is a huge question mark, and the possibility of the ALDS coming down to Burnett vs. Verlander is not a good thought.

Burnett's stuff makes him untouchable when his mind is right any time he takes the mound. The hope you need to have is that the good Burnett is on the hill. Cause when the good Burnett is on the hill, he beats anyone. When the bad Burnett on the hill, he torpedoes the game. There isnt much in the way of middle ground

I agree, and because of that, he makes me really nervous. As I stated in another thread, the possibility of it coming down to Verlander against Burnett really scares me.
