Pretty selfish of A-Rod to keep going at the umpire an inning later.

EDIT: I wouldn't have an issue if Girardi benched him for tomorrow's game. Some of these guys need to understand that they're going to be held accountable for their actions. Now, because A-Rod couldn't keep his mouth shut, the Yankees are without their best hitter in a tie game.

Yankees take a 5 -3 lead on the hit from Matsui

The Girardi ejection was crazy! I wondered what happened or was said to make it so intense.

That's unbelievable to me. Tie game. Fifth inning. Singles hitter up with a runner on third and one out. Two strikes on the hitter. And Girardi does not have the infield in.

I just read the AP's story about Guzman's call-up in the paper, and part of the headline states that he may be auditioning for a spot off the bench on the postseason roster. I don't understand how that would work, he wasn't on the 40 man roster before yesterday, let alone the August 31st deadline for postseason eligibility. The only way I can see him being eligible for a postseason roster spot is if another outfielder goes down with an injury. Am I missing something? Let me see if I can find a link....

Phil Hughes needs to find his way into the rotation in my opinion and Joba needs to get back to setting up Mo.Hughes has been real good and his arrival is one of the premier reasons the yanks have stormed to the best record in the game. hes saved that bullpen along with the always MVP contender Mo Rivera but with AJ Burnett and Joba being unreliable I would spend the next 3 weeks getting Hughes stretched out for longer outings and a maybe a 100 pitch start before the season ends.

hes been that good and in a short series you dont want his arm rotting on the bench if their starters get pounded which is a good probablility based on what we know of Sabbathia in October and how the other giabrones have been pitching as of late...

I agree with everything you're saying Crunchy, but not now. Let's do that in Spring training. Hughes has been Mariano 96/Joba 07/K-Rod 02-esque in the pen this year, and we shouldn't f*** that up so close to the postseason. There's no guarantees that Joba would adjust successfully if moved to the pen right now, so why take the chance? Next year however, their roles should be switched, or both of them should be starting (with say a Valverde type setting up Mo ;) )

haven't you guys gotten tired of failing to transition NL relievers to the American League yet?

I strongly suspect that Valverde is going to sign with the Washington Nationals anyway. They're in a good position to spend money on their pen.

The Hughes-Mo combo has shortened the game to 7 innings in the regular season, and I would assume 6 innings when the postseason comes along. Also, Joba has been everything I expected him to be. Dominant some days, awful the next. You dont give up on that one yr into the starting plan. We saw last night that he can take down the second best offense in baseball with relative ease when he's on his game. I look forward to a rotation that houses CC, AJ, Hughes and Joba for 2010, with likely Pettitte or Lackey in the other position. But for now, Hughes is so huge in the pen that I wouldnt move him.

In terms of his replacement in the pen in 2010, I think Melancon will be pretty good come 2010, but I see a FA acquisition as well.

I'd love to see Hughes in the rotation. When he was solid, he was lights out. The no hitter against Texas? He was brilliant. Minus the whole missing the last few innings of the game due to an injury... lol.

I'd also have to say in the playoffs our pen looks the best. Aceves -- Hughes -- Mo. All three are lights out and I really don't think our season would have been the same if it wasnt for Aceves. Personally, I think he shouldve been starting over Mitre. He def. has earned it...

Good to see some early runs against Halladay.

Really let him off the hook though. On top of Damon hitting into the double play, Gardner needs to score on the Jeter single. The ball was hit in front of him so he should have been able to get a better read on it, and the left fielder fielded the ball flat footed. With Gardner's speed he easily should have scored.

And Mitre's command abandons him against the bottom of the order...

EDIT: Absolutely miserable job by Mitre. You cannot open up the inning against the bottom of the order throwing seven of nine pitches for balls. He deserved to pay for it and he did.

On top of that, you also have to question the pitch selection. I really hate that righty to lefty run back fastball that Greg Maddux kind of perfected. It really takes exceptional control to throw that pitch, because it is actually designed to run towards the middle of the plate. For a guy like Halladay it can be a weapon, but not for a guy like Mitre.

y228' date=' you might be the most negative Yankee fan ever. But I guess that's not saying a lot.[/quote']

I figured I was going to get one of those comments eventually. I'm not nearly as negative as I probably portray myself on this site. I guess I'm might actually be a little negative, but I probably have misinterpreted myself on here a little bit.

However, in a way, it's by design. Most of the Yankee fans here are going to make some post when someone does something well, celebrating it. I don't feel the need to do that, especially on a Red Sox forum. Obviously I'm happy when someone hits a home run, but the "YES!!! A-ROD!!!!!" posts serve absolutely no purpose. Instead I'm more prone to mention things that concern me, because at least that has the possibility to spark conversation.
