Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen said the current plan is for Johan Santana (elbow) to make his spring debut on March 18 and his first regular-season start on April 11.

That's the Mets' fifth game of the season. Unless Santana can talk his way back onto the mound earlier than that -- and with the way he's feeling now, he may give it a try -- then Oliver Perez might be the Mets' Opening Day starter.

Why they backed out of getting his elbow checked up by a doctor is beyond me...

It was snowing in NY.

This is not good. This time of year you should feel good physically. If your having problems, I'd say it's a red flag.

So is Brad Penny's shoulder discomfort a red flag? They've been in game action for less than a week.

If his elbow felt fine yesterday (and WFAN reports said it did) then I see nothing to worry about. Seems like the Mets are taking caution as well they should.
