I know you want to make this a pats thing, but it's a Brady thing. The same thing would be happening if it was Peyton that went down.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Almost every move the Carolina Panthers make -- or can't make -- this offseason is based on one figure: $16.7 million.

That's the staggering salary-cap number four-time Pro Bowl defensive end Julius Peppers carries under the franchise tag. The money counts on the cap even though Peppers hasn't signed the one-year tender and has said he wants to play elsewhere.

The unresolved issue has left the Panthers on the free agency sidelines. The Panthers have less money to spend than any NFL team with Peppers, quarterback Jake Delhomme and newly re-signed left tackle Jordan Gross taking up loads up cap space.

This is exactly why BB traded Cassel so quickly, he had a deal and didn't want to end up in a situation like this.

Should be an interesting year in Buffalo, get your popcorn ready:

From Saturday's Globe and Mail

March 27, 2009 at 10:53 PM EDT

Wide receiver Terrell Owens believes Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reneged on a personal commitment to keep him on contract, and suggested that the owner's son, Stephen Jones, the executive vice-president of the NFL team, was behind his release this month.

"You hear all the speculation, and you talk to the owner of the team, and he reassures you, you're not going anywhere and then, out of left-field … you get blindsided," Owens, 35, said in an interview with Rogers Sportsnet, to be broadcast tomorrow evening.

Owens, who had signed a four-year contract extension with Dallas last summer, will instead play with the Buffalo Bills on a one-year contract in the 2009 season. With his production having dropped after signing the $34-million (all currency U.S.) deal last June, he became expendable when the Cowboys traded three draft picks to the Detroit Lions in October for Roy Williams, who signed a $45-million extension, with $27-million guaranteed. Owens was also considered to be a divisive locker room presence.

"I know whole-heartedly he [Jerry Jones] wanted me there," Owens said. "There were some people I know who got in his ear that pressured him to make that decision. For that, it's sad. You let two or three people conspire to get me out of the situation."

Owens caught 69 passes for 1,052 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. When Jones released Owens, he said: "You take age as a consideration. … In this particular case, we have an outstanding player in Roy Williams, and it was a significant factor in the decision I made to release Terrell."

Why Buffalo?

"Why not?" Owens said. "They were really after me, they wanted me, despite everything that had been said negatively about me. It was a no-brainer."

Owens told USA Today he doesn't report for voluntary workouts by custom, and won't change his routine for the Bills.

In a statement late Tuesday, owner Pat Bowlen announced that the Broncos will attempt to trade Jay Cutler. SI.com's Peter King reports that the team plans to execute a deal before the April 25-26 NFL Draft.

"Numerous attempts to contact Jay Cutler in the last 10 days, both by Head Coach Josh McDaniels and myself, have been unsuccessful," Bowlen said. "His agent earlier today clearly communicated and confirmed to us that Jay no longer has any desire to play for the Denver Broncos. We will begin discussions with other teams in an effort to accommodate his request." The Jets, Lions, and Bucs will likely be Cutler's most ardent suitors. The 49ers, Bears, Panthers, Redskins, and Vikings may also show interest.

The Lions should offer No. 1 overall.

What a little bitch he is. Not calling back your owners? Being pissy because they had the audacity to think about trading a valuable piece for more valuable pieces? I hope he goes to Detroit and sucks for the rest of his career.

Denver won't want that. They won't want to wrap up 30M plus in a unproven rookie.

Cleveland or NY Jets is the best bet.

Tampa at #19 is a strong possibility.

TB is a good possibility as well. But in any trade I think there has to be a QB heading back. Quinn from Cleveland, Quinn from NYJ(3-way deal), Josh Johnson from TB? Chicago could jump in on this as well. I believe their pick is right around the other two teams, and I guess they could send Orton back:dunno:

BTW Minny should be in on him. Their stupid to think Rosenfels is the answer. If they get Cutler, their instant favorites to win their Conference. Which none of the other interested teams can say.

I could see a 1st rounder+ Alex smith going back to Denver. I think Alex Smith would do well in Denver.

Dark Horse candidate is Philly. Mcnabb and 1st rounder back to Denver. But that's only if Mcnabb wants out, which he might since Philly has made no attempts to improve the team.

As long as ive lived Chicago has never had a qb worth s***,ya even jim mcmahon was a fraud who had success with the defense and walter payton and little responsibilities...Orton,Grossman,Flutie,Bobby f***in Douglas who ran for 1000 yards in the early 70s but couldnt throw a spiral,Mike Tomzak, the list is forever and ever....I am of the mindset you can win without a stud qb if you have a defense like Pitt does and like Baltimore did and like the Bears of yore did but this Bears team doesnt have that kind of defense and does need an offensive threat....When your offense is based on kick returns and not turning the ball over you are doomed....Jay Cutler is a gash, who the f*** does he think he is??....Win something before you start making demands, this team was a collasal failure last fall losing 3 straight to finish out of the money and they got pasted when it mattered most....Josh Mcdaniel??How have the other Pats coordinators done without BB ?...Outside of becoming millionaires they havent done anything but get fired,Charlie Weiss being the exception but hes on his way to getting axed at Notre Dame...How is the a/d doing in South Bend these days??...a 10 yr deal given to that fat s*** after 6 weeks of football should seal his fate.

I think Quinn from Cleveland in some 3 way trade will be what happens. I think Mcdaniels will want someone young that he can train, but not some rookie who still has to adapt to life in the NFL.

You never know what you're getting at the qb position and its as much a crap shoot as anything when drafting these guys high..See Alex Smith,Andre Ware,David Klingler....then see Tom Brady and Cassell etc...one group went in the top 3, while our guys went 6th and 7th rounds.

You just cant gamble when drafting so high, id always take the best player available at that slot rather than trying to fill a need or do what the Pats do,dump the high pix for lower pix and rely on scouting.

Cutler is a top notch QB. He put up good numbers for a team that was always behind, a complicated offense, young WR's, NO defense and a horrid running game. Ya he might have gone about this the wrong way, but that doesn't diminish his skills.

Don't forget the Bucs... we won with Brad f***ing Johnson.

Don't forget Erik Kramer. He actually had a Pro Bowl season.

Baby or not, I'll take Cutler over Orton any day. Not that it would make much difference with our offensive line and receiving corps.

Cutler spoke exclusively Wednesday night with FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer at the UFC Fight Night 18 card in Nashville that both were attending. Cutler says he was shocked the Broncos issued a statement proclaiming he was on the block after conversations with agent Bus Cook.

"I was surprised they decided to trade me this soon," Cutler told Glazer in his first comments since the statement was released. "I didn't want to get traded. This wasn't me. They [The Broncos]had been going back and forth saying things, wanting me to be their quarterback and then they didn't."

"I really didn't want this. I love Denver. I really like my teammates. I didn't want it to get this far."

Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler said Sunday night he has formally asked Denver to trade him and confirmed that a Saturday meeting with first-year coach Josh McDaniels ended badly from his perspective, while McDaniels offered another viewpoint on Sunday night.

Looks like he was trying to get some leverage with the new coach coming in to get a new contract.

The Chicago Bears pulled the big upset Thursday afternoon by acquiring Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, a source told ESPN.com.

The Broncos confirmed the move.

To acquire Cutler, the Bears had to give up quarterback Kyle Orton and first-round picks in 2009 and 2010, a source said.

To complete the trade, the Broncos had to give back a third-round pick in 2009.

The Bears beat out the Redskins, Buccaneers, Lions, Titans and other teams to get land the 25-year-old Pro Bowl quarterback.

The Broncos had been asking for at least two first-round choices.

Highlights of some of Jay Cutler's best moments in 2008.

Cutler asked to be traded when he found out first-year coach Josh McDaniels tried to acquire Matt Cassel in a trade with the Patriots.

Cutler had not returned phone calls from the Broncos, according to the team, and had been staying away from the offseason program.

Most exciting move the Bears have made in my 23 years on this Earth. I thought for sure they were going to be outbid by about 4 teams.

f*** YEAH!

Eh, chances are Angelo would've picked busts anyway. You don't know what this means for a Bears fan. We actually have a bona fide franchise quarterback. Haven't been able to say that since the 30s.

Yea, I just hope for you guys the defense still has something left in the tank, and Cutler is also gonna need some receivers
