It wouldnt be the end of the world. The Pats still have 4 picks in the first 90 selections. That doesnt include what the Pats will be getting back for Vrabel, which hasnt been released yet. Plus the Pats will have possibly the best backup QB in the NFL

Actually the more I think about it, the more I think the Bucs should pull the trigger on this. The talent in this year's 1st round isn't great, and if all the good DTs and OLBs are off the board once we're up... we'll probably get not making this deal. And its hell of a lot better than drafting Josh Freeman.

Well, now that Rosenfels is in Minnesota...

Do the Vikings really truly honestly believe having him at QB puts them over the top?

And do you really believe the pick the Chiefs are giving up will be higher than a fifth rounder?

edit: Cassell to the Chiefs. It's on NFL.com

Scott Pioli quoted as saying "f*** the draft!" (not really)

The Vikings should look into bringing Jeff Garcia into camp.

I love this whole Scott Pioli as the Chiefs GM thing. Gave up a 1st rounder plus another pick, if I had to guess, for a lateral move. Smart!

edit: Especially with as many needs as the Chiefs have!

KC is the youngest team in the league. He brought in a LB to add a veteran quality. And a young already groomed QB. Don't know about you but I'm not sold on Stafford or Sanchez. And there isn't too many other great options out there.

They already have the better option -- Tyler Thigpen. He played well last year in just his second season and he didn't have much of an O-Line or a dependable running game. I think it's a lateral move, and going forward, I'd rather have Thigpen and the draft picks. They have too many needs.

The Boston Globe has confirmed that the Patriots have a trade in place with the Kansas City Chiefs for quarterback Matt Cassel.

At this time, the compensation is not known.

The official paperwork has been filed with the NFL.

Cassel, who turns 27 in May, will be reunited with former Patriots Vice President of Player Personnel Scott Pioli, the Chiefs' first-year general manager.

Cassel was one of the NFL's surprise stories in 2008. Despite having not started a regular-season game since high school, he stepped in for the injured Tom Brady in the Patriots' season opener against the Chiefs, and ultimately led the team to an 11-5 season.

Cassel completed 63.4 percent of his passes for 3,693 yards, with 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel is part of the trade agreement with Cassel.

EDIT: for the record, i would have preferred Cassel go to the NFC, oh well

Ok I see where your coming from. But you know how New GM's and Coaches are. They all want there guy.

Considering Pioli knows Cassel better than any other GM out there, and he pulled the trigger...he must see his ceiling much higher than Thigpen's.

I had a feeling they didn't want the 3rd pick. If I had to guess what the surprise was, I'd say Gonzalez is coming to NE along with Picks. Or maybe next years 1st round choice.

Turn my back for just a second and look what happens in here. Anyway, interrupting the PFT Invasion, I wanted to drop a nugget of info on the Cassel to KC deal. The Chiefs first round pick (No. 3 overall) is not part of this deal.

I'll have a more fleshed out story up on the site shortly.

Florio, back to you. Don't you people use coasters?!

Peter King of SI is reporting that it's Vrabel and Cassel for KC's 2nd rounder this year. King has never been a solid source though, I'll believe it when Schefter and/or Reiss report it.

I tend to be skeptical about everything until Schefter reports it. Glad he's reported that Dawkins to Denver's a done deal. Five years is a lot... not sure it matters.

It's only gonna be a 2 year deal if that. This is the NFL, they can cut him whenever.

If it's Cassel and Vrabel for on a 2nd rounder I will be semi disappointed.

I agree on Schefter. The dawkins deal is voidable after two years so there's an out if needed.

Here's the official report on Cassel from Schefter:

http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/02/28/patriots-trade-cassel-to-chiefs/

The Kansas City Chiefs have completed a trade for New England Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel. There is no new contract in place, but the teams have agreed on compensation — details of which were not immediately available.

But it is a done deal. Cassel is going to Kansas City.
