Willis has been working on a modified delivery. If he can return to hos old form or close, he has a chance to be very servicable. And Robertson with work can be a 4.5ish ERA guy. That be fine from the #5 spot.

 

Farrell is very good pitching coach. He could really help this guys out and they could have a fair shot at cracking the rotation. Willis could start in AAA if need be tho.

Yeah, if we get one of them then Spring Training would be extremely important. If he excels and shows a lot of improvement then maybe he cracks the rotation from day one, but right now I would have more confidence in Masterson.

I'd rather pay a little more $ and sign Derek Lowe to a 3 year deal than move anything of value for Willis. We are not in a position where we really need to take on low-risk gambles, although you always do if the reward is high. We've got a stable roster now and good depth as insurance, so high-risk, high-reward moves make sense

Lugo has little value. Let's not kid ourselves. His decline in the field and batters box isn't going to be helped by his leg injury. Throw in the fact he's 33, if you can find someone to take him for anything of relevance, should be a no brainer.

 

 

I think Masterson holds more value in the pen at the moment with his lack of a 3rd pitch. Unless MDC takes control of that spot in the BP, or Bard comes in and really impress's early on, Masterson won't be in the starting rotation.

If we don't acquire another starter, I would rather have Masterson in the rotation than Bowden or Buchholz (from day one).
