For years we have heard people complain about George. He's too abrasive. Outspends the league. Is making the league worse by outspending everyone, blah blah blah. As a Yankee fan, George was a guy you had to love. He would go to his manager and GM and say, who do you want? He didnt care about the price. He didnt care about what it would take. He didnt care who he'd have to piss off to get that player. He just said, here's the cash, do it. I liked that about George.

Well, in comes Hank and he has those same qualities. He is willing to pay as much as possible to win, which I like. He makes some dumb quotes in the papers, but so did George, no change there. But the biggest knock on George and pretty much the sole reason why we havent been able to cross the hump from perrenial playoff contenders to WS winners the past 8 yrs has been pitching. And mostly, this is due to a barren wasteland of a minor league farm system. Well, this had a lot to do with George.

George didnt care about the minor leagues, at all. He'd take a 39 yr old (or 45 yr old in some instances) with 1 yr of over the hill performance left over the hot shot rookie who has an entire career in front of him, every single time. He was one of the cheapest owners when it came to the draft and the INTL signing period. Likely one of the reasons why guys like Mark Prior slipped through our hands even though we drafted them. This is absolutely not the case for Hank. Last yr we spent 9 mil on the draft, more than any other team. And it sounds like that is just a stepping stone. A recent quote by Hank shows his devotion to building from within.

"With the exception of the Red Sox, who have some youth like us and some veterans like us, most of the other teams winning right now seem to be on youth movements," Steinbrenner said. "We've got to keep going with the farm system and build them up as strong as we can -- get everybody we can.

"If we have to, we'll hoard everybody. We'll do what we've got to do in the U.S. and in Latin America to get all the best young talent we can. That's what the Yankees used to do"

If he puts his money where his mouth is on this again, we will be in much better shape. I think he is learning from the mistakes of his father. Regardless, I like Hank. Is he an *******, yeah. Is he abrasive, hell yeah. But is he willing to spend for anything the team needs and is he now a guy who is doing the ONE THING that George did not do to make this team better? Yes. If he actually does hoard the talent this yr like he has the past 2, then we'll be fine.

Hank reminds me of Mark Cuban - and he has been outrageously funny so far, But in spite of all the fun people have made out of him - you gotta tip your hat that he was right about Hughes and Kennedy unlike people who really knows Yankee baseball . e.g. Cashman and Jacko.

How can you say he's right when the decision to keep Hughes and Kennedy was based on a desire for inexpensive young pitchers who will be around for the long-term, distant future. Sorry, but the distant future can't be limited to 2 months. 5 years down the road if both Hughes and Kennedy turn out to be a wash and Santana is still on his s*** then you can say Hank was right, but this was a decision made for the long term, therefore you need time before you can declare it a mistake. Similar to Pedro's deal with the Mets. Right off the bat people questioned it, too many years/too much $$;, but he was outstanding in 2005. Some people prematurely determined that it was a great signing based on his 2005 season before we had the chance to see what happened in 2006, 2007, and this year where he's pitched in only 29 games these 3 years combined, 6 less than he pitched in 2005 alone. Point being that you need to let a contract, or a deal, play out over the predetermined period of time before you can evaluate whether or not it was worth it. Santana may very well be nasty these next 3-4 years, and then seriously decline the last 3-4 years of his contract while still being paid tremendous amounts of money. Is that really what we want? Then at that point we get bashed for having "old overpaid veterans who cant get the job done." I'm tired of hearing that, and so is the organization, which is why this decision was made.

Kennedy and Hughes are hurt 2 months into their rookie season. Obviously their long term plan is ruined. Should have just traded them and Melky for Santana and paid him $150 million dollars. Stupid 'baseball people'. Cashman doesn't deserve to have a job.

Were I you, I would, too.

Hank Steinbrenner is a good ownership representative for the New York market. Furthermore, Girardi and Cashman are very good for their respective roles, too.

There may be stuff wrong with your favorite team right now, but there's not anything wrong with your team's leadership.

Heck, even your team captain isn't too bad sometimes...;)

was that you getting banned from mark feisands forum in the ny daily?

http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/yankees/

there werent any of this guys posts to read but as soon as i read this i suspected you for some reason.....

hank steinbrenner wants to win and he has money to spend.

good

lets see what he does come 7/31 when theyre in 4th place playing 500 ball and are 10 behind tampa for the wild card.....i agree they need to be patient because if these youngsters develop as they could they will be tremendous....

but will he be patient as the s*** heels like joel sherman and pencil dick mike lupica cornhole their efforts??

patience is a virtue im told

in my business of finacial recovery it will get me fired

in yankee baseball the same thing happens historically.

i think the yankees will give it the old college try this summer but as is they dont have the arms this year, the same arms if developed may indeed be enuff next summer with the addition of a 200ip who can keep an era under 3.5.

So true. I spent my first few years out of college in such a position and patience was a bad word.

Never forget, we're in the office on a Saturday at month's end. We're trying to collect this one account that was about to go belly-up and in walks the borrower, out of the blue. This was when customer's actually still had account cards, so the receptionist asks "Does anyone have Bob Miller's card" (made up that name).

One of my co-workers, not knowing the guy was in the office, stands up and says "Bob Miller? I have his card. That guy is a f***ing stiff."

Bob Miller hears this and walks out saying "you'll never get another dime from me you *******s." The collection rep was soon after terminated. Classic.

thats hillarious

when i broke my teeth in this industry i worked for the zuckerman brothers in chelsea.

1 brother burned down his warehouse and was arrested

the other brother flipped to the feds, leon got 15 years, jacob moved to new mexico.

we had a lot of face to face contact back then

in that arena we had physical confrontations monthly and most of us carried side arms into the building, not because of the customers but because of the neighborhood.

anyways

where i am now its different because the money i collect is from existing customers for the most part meaning you have to seperate them from their money while trying to keep them as a customer....youre walking a tightrope

the construction industry is in f***ing shambles right now and we have people leaving 350,000.00 machines at our doorstep,at their last job site or theyre catching on fire.

its about as bad as ive seen it.

quick story here...

worst f***ing i ever took in this business?

when i worked on commision i had a guy fedex me 15K on a student loan which on my end wouldve cleared me 3500.00 personally.

he calls me with a tracking #,the package comes in at 945am on the 31st,just in time.

im hi fiving myself, bragging to my cooworkers on the new car i had in mind etc....

i open the envelope and the mother f***er mailed me monopoly money

honest to God,15,000.00 in monopoly money

it took me 3 months to calm down and 10 years before i could laff about it.

handcuffed sonny, completely handcuffed and had limited recourse due to his credit being f***ed up

i mean really

when you have a rhode island school of design note and you're an unemployed glass blower how can i seperate s*** from shinola?

i got vengeance but it wasnt nearly enuff.

anyone remember the barcelona olympics being on pay per view?

i ordered him the olympic simulcast out of barcelona, complete with the water polo, synchronized swimming and power walking events that year....cost him a few hundred anyways but then i cornholed the prick very badly...

""hi,this is john smith from 1 main st...i am leaving town on friday afternoon and wont be back for 3 months...would you shut my lites off from 9-1 and wait for my call to turn them back on please""

labor day friday the lites go out.

nobody to talk to until tuesday, 4 days later....oooooooooof there goes the cookout and anything in the fridge rots out.

i do have skills and can be challenged ethically

by the way tommy boy

congrats on the celts, should be a hot time in the garden coming up

Nice, Sean. It is a business where day to day activities result in hilarious stories. And I hear you on the sidearms...though I never carried, some of the projects we visitied were dreadful.

The aptly named "Father Panik Village" in Bridgeport was about as bad as it gets here in CT. The question I always asked myself while going in there was "eye contact or no eye contact." I opted for eye contact...if I'm getting shot or stabbed I want it to be because I was a threat...not because I was a wus. Generally, in cheap suit and tie we were viewed as cops anyway and that kept us relatively safe, although despised.

i collected for bridgeport anesthesia as a client.

good times

""is brittany there""

who is this

""this is sean from boston""

any reason you'd be calling the parents of a dead 10 year old sean?

the kid got burnt to death in a fire....they dont mention that on the application

like anything else in life you need to have a rubber soul to perform in this industry.

""oh i am soo sorry mrs smith...i do some billing for b'prt anesthesia and evidently they dont have your insurance information.....mrs smith i am floored by this and dont know how to apologize enuff....if you have a minute to grab your insurance card i think i can help make this issue go away,at least that would be the begining of my apology ma'am and again,i have kids and i am so very sorry for your loss....your group # was??your member id # is??....bless you mrs smith,on behalf of b'port anesthesia we apologize for revisiting this tragedy,i pray y'all have a good night""
