they have as much right to be fans as anyone else. the fact that you resent them cause they live a more privileged life is another story altogether

Anyone remember Ben Affleck at a sox game before 03?

another f***ing poser who has known where the camera was since he was 10 years old as a Zoom kid on PBS.

Dont you love it when John Kerry throws out the 1st pitch and 3 hops the catcher?

Or the couple of sissies in front of you wearing sweaters around their necks in the July heat discussing the merits of Alex Rodriguez being the greatest centerfielder in Yankee history during the democratic convention??

Someone who loves the sox didnt get to see them that evening because of the above mentioned socialites who are now sox fans because its stylish.

They have important things to do in life,thats for sure.

Posing for People Magazine with action shots of him and J-Lo flying kites in central park essentially made my summer that year.

There are fans and then you have the front runners,posers and pink hat wearers.

Jim Belushi is a no talent ass clown but hes at every Cubs game as pathetic as that is.

I dont get upset when hes sitting in the front rows because hes there every day.

I do get upset when a season ticket holder gets cornholed out of his seats in October because John Henry has to make way for the important people who are far too busy in May to attend but they certainly find the time in October to attend

I think the more relevant question would be how do you not figure?

If you look at the part of the quote I was commenting on, which I bolded, it stated that the celebs priorities were more important than ours. I don't see it that way.

My priorities?

Parenting, which involves an inordinate amount of time staying on top of my kids, especially my high maintenance child. I don't have a 3rd party raising my children.

Coaching baseball or basketball, where I am extremely committed to my players, parents, the league, etc. How many celebs are coaching sports?

Working a typical work week, for decent/modest pay requires me to work a normal workweek, and doesn't allow for large breaks in time and an exorbitant salary with which I can attend lots of games.

Pampered celebs priorities, IMO, pale in comparison to the average joe's priorities. Does this make them less of a fan? No. But those that show up in the front row of a playoff game when its likely they haven't a fkn clue about what the team has been through prior looks phony to me.

My fault...

...I misunderstood your statement. Or the original quote. I thought the original was stating that celebrities have priorities more important than attending a mid-summer baseball game...not that celebrities priorities more important than the average person. Seeing my interpretation, you can clearly see why I would have called what you said into question. Sorry for the mix up.

I didn't mean to imply that a celebrity's priorities were more important than a regular person's, just sometimes more difficult to get away from.

a big part of it has to do with the amount of travelling most celebrities do, they're never usually in the same city for large periods of time like regular fans are

Sox21 - not a knock on you, but I think the bolded above says it all

Regular = middle class

Regular = lifelong fan

Regular = taxpaying member of the community where the team plays

Regular = the one who gets screwed when the not regular (celebrity) wants premium seats to the best game(s) of the year.

Regular = middle class

I don't think your financial situation has any bearing on how devoted of a fan you are

Regular = lifelong fan

I don't see why Ben Affleck and Matt Damon can't be lifelong fans just cause they make movies for a living and have more money than you or me

Regular = taxpaying member of the community where the team plays

I live in Montreal and frankly, I don't see why I should be considered any less of a fan

Regular = the one who gets screwed when the not regular (celebrity) wants premium seats to the best game(s) of the year.

There are a lot more people than just celebrities screwing you out of premium seats

The majority of fans are not from the upper class, the majority of those buying merchandise are not of the upper class.

It's not how much money they make it has more to do with the fact that they are given special perks because of their celebrity. When is the last time you saw "Joe Smith" at a Sox game getting 30 minutes of camera time while the announcers ranted and raved about their fandom.

It's not that you are less of a fan. In the context of this debate it is that there is less likelihood you would be attending Red Sox games at Fenway on a regular basis because you live in Montreal. By the way, I used to spend a lot of time up there at the old Jarry Park and the Olympic Stadium as a kid attending Expos games. Now, there I never had a problem getting a ticket. :D

Sure, corporations to name one entity, but again in the context of this discussion we were focusing on celebs vs "regular" fans.

It's all good Head, BoSox.

Ya know what I could see the Sox doing as a form of one-upsmanship? The Sox giving a plate appearance or 1 day contract, spring invite, etc. to some regular joe who is a known long-time Sox fan and has overcome some sort of major adversity through a display of courage and balls.

Let the Yanks have their celebrity...while the Sox stand for the common man. Although we know that's not necessarily true, it plays out well in the media. Good marketing, IMO. Although to a cynic like me it would scream GIMMICK, it would be an interesting move by the Sox.

FO...you have my permission to steal my idea.

The majority of the population aren't upper class either so of course the largest percentage of any team's fan base will be middle class.

Then you'd have to blame FOX, ESPN or NESN for that, not the celebrity

Yea, that was a hell of a perk of going to an Expo game. Show up right before gametime and pay dirt cheap for a good seat but I have made the trek to Fenway.

Sure, corporations to name one entity, but again in the context of this discussion we were focusing on celebs vs "regular" fans.

and my point in this part of the debate is that if you're in a position in life to benefit by getting priority for tickets, you'd probably take it too. for example, Canadiens tickets are impossible to come by here and I hate seeing the old ladies in the front row of the Bell Centre who don't know a hockey puck from a frozen turd but I take advantage of any connection I might come by to get good seats too

Sox 21

Guess we have different views. I just don't believe all the celebs showing up at games are die hard fans of the team as much as a "guest" of the owners who wouldn't pass up the opportunity to get some publicity at the expense of other fans.

I agree completely with you there but I also don't believe that someone should be dismissed as a "pink hat" just cause they are a celebrity

its nice to have an intelligent debate though...

Found this thread while searching for something else. Hilarious to be arguing over whether Crystal is a true blue Yankees fan or not just because he wore a Mets hat in one movie (and for a specific reason, which is mentioned in the thread).

But I remember this stunt. I hated it then, I still hate it now, but I guarantee that in ten or fifteen years, teams will sell ABs in one regular season game to the highest bidder.
