Did Jacko really call the '04 Cardinals inferior?

If memory serves, they won more games than Boston that season.

They had the best record in all of baseball. The Yankees did not really beat major powerhouses in their championship years. After Piazza and Leiter, the 2000 Mets were full of nobody's and over the hill players like Zeile and Ventura. The 1999 John Rocker Atlanta Braves had a bunch of doozies on their roster. Their SS was the immortal Walt Weiss. Check out their Bullpen. They had good stats, but that had to be a function of being in a very inferior NL. Those guys were bags of crap (Rudy Seanez et al)

The Padres and the Mets were similar to the Rockies. Beating the Braves was no easy task. They had 3 bonafide HOF aces.

And beating the team with the best record in baseball....?

Can't wait to see Girardi blow Joba's and Hughes' arms out.

Beating the Braves was the equivalent of beating the Cards.

Mark my words...tick' date='tick, tick BOOOOOOM. Girardi and Steinbrenner will be a LOT of fun to watch. I hope it happens.[/quote']

It won't.

Have you seen Steinbrenner lately?

I don't agree with this.

Look at the PAP for the 2006 Marlins. There isn't really any outliers, other than Sanchez, that would make Girardi look like Dusty Baker.

Though, Sanchez didn't exceed 114 pitches in one start in 2006, he did throw nearly 200 innings, after only posting 136 in 2005.

A-Rod and Rivera will most likely be gone. Girardi will never last' date=' Pena doesn't have a chance, so Mattingly would be the smartest choice. It would be fun to see Girardi try to keep his mouth shut for an entire season, howerver, especially when the Yankees are 10 behind at the break. :harhar:[/quote']

Rivera will go to the team who is offering him top dollar. If he really signs with the another team, because Joe Torre is no longer the manager, he'll be the first player in the history of MLB to do that.

True but sometimes a coach can be a deciding factor for a player on the bubble. I think Joe Torre had a lot to do with Andy Pettite returning to New York.

I believe Joe Torre could have played into the equation for Posada and Rivera had he stayed but now that he isn't there they will go strictly based on money.

If the Yankees hire Girardi, I think they'll go with a youth movement and expect Girardi to teach them the game and be a firm disciplinarian. If they finish out of the playoffs after year two, he'll be gone and Donnie Baseball will take the job.

just in time to ride the wave of the new kids cementing themselves into big positions while the old guard goes into retirement.
