Guys who led from Day two don't deserve to win the division? All because the Yankees are on one of the hottest streaks in the history of baseball? I've heard it all now.

 

Yeah, Sox, you pathetic losers, you don't deserve to win. Jeez.

 

How've we done against the Yankees the last five or so times we've played them? The Yankees are back in this division race because the Sox didn't bury them when they had the chance and they've had five or six chances. Even when they weren't playing the Yankees, I'm pretty sure there was a stretch where the Yankees had lost four or five straight and the Red Sox dropped games they should've been winning as opposed to tacking on to their lead. It's the absolute truth... if you don't go for the throat, and if you're content with what you have when a roster that good is struggling and you don't have that killer instinct to bury them while you can then you don't deserve to win the division when they close in you get swept by the Blue Jays. It's that simple. I'm not saying the sky is falling, I'm not panicking that the season is over... I love our chances to win it all, I really do, but I'm echoing now what I said at the time, you have to bury the Yankees when you have the chance.

If that's what you are banking on, you might as well let the Tigers in the playoffs. Oki, maybe. Gagne? If he even makes the post-season roster, Tito should be fired.

Vernon Wells will have season-ending surgery Tuesday for a cyst and torn labrum in his left shoulder.

 

So, the decision is made right after a series with the Red Sox and right before a series versus the Yankees? According to the Jays, the surgery, which was originally expected to take place after the season, is being moved up to to accommodate Dr. James Andrews' schedule. He could still play this weekend anyway, but he apparently won't. The Jays will likely go with Reed Johnson in center and Adam Lind in left the rest of the way.

I doubt who they were playing would matter to them. They have $126 million invested in this guy, you think they care which team, the Red Sox or Yankees win the division? Come on, riverside. Chances are whoever they bring in can do better than 0-8.

Wells may have been awful, but he is certainly a more trained hitter who can still be dangerous. With the rotation that will be going at them, we have a pretty veteran group who can make young kids spin. I like it and think it will benefit us greatly.

Not only that, but he made some great plays in the series against the Red Sox. He is a gold glover. I take this year's version of Vernon Wells over Adam Lind any day of the week
