Yea' date=' thats what I don't like. If its a normal game, fine. But with a DH, I'm looking to save as many relievers as possible. Certainly the best for when they are most needed.[/quote']

When did defensive indifference first appear? I just don't get it. Even late in a game, wouldn't you still want to try to get any out you can, be it a pick off, thrown out, etc? Plus with a runner on 1st, you have a force out at 2 bases. Letting them take second now only gives you the force at 1st. I just don't get it.

Because the run doesn't matter. Get the guy at the plate with a 4 run lead and 2 down.

Shocker.

I can see why they used him. With his usage rules, it's unlikely they would allow him to sit and pitch in the second game after having warmed him up already. At least, not in August. October, that's another story.

So, essentially, they did just that. They saved the rest of the 'pen for the nightcap. No, the options left aren't either of the best two BP pitchers, but with Beckett pitching and the overall quality of the BP, it's not like they are in a bad position.

Right you are, ORS. The other piece to the equation is TAKE THE WIN WHILE ITS THERE FOR THE TAKING.

I dont mind them using Papelbon. Like ORS said, he was warmed up already. They only had to use Oki and Paps for the day game, they still have MDC, Gagne and Timlin for the nightcap

I wanted to post this in the nightcap thread but I have to go to work.

Buchholz reminded me a lot of Hughes. Some jitters, inconsistent with the location in spots but his stuff is so good that he didnt get hurt too badly. As with Hughes, both had been babied in the minors and seem to fade when they hit the 70 pitch mark. Very similar styles and composure. Neither give in and this leads to both of them getting a bit squeezed and raising their pitch counts. But as they get along in the league, they'll start getting those borderline calls. I know I didnt advocate for his callup, but this kid has worlds more talent than Jon Lester. Lester should be the one optioned if you ask me.

Paps was brought in to a 3 run game in the 8th.

And he got the save... I don't really see where he was coming from saying that.

Am I the only person who believes that closers should only be used in a close (3 runs or less) game? Especially a DH.

I believe that people who take breaks from the team they root for aren't real fans and wear pink hats.

I'd agree with you, except if Buchholz was given a regular spot in the rotation, he would most likely surpass his innings limit for the year that the Sox have placed him on
