Curt Schilling takes the hill for the first time in seven weeks as the Red Sox open a three-game series in Anaheim against the Angels.

Schilling, who has been on the disabled list with tendinitis in his pitching shoulder, made three Minor League rehab starts with Triple-A Pawtucket, the most recent on Tuesday at Columbus, where he pitched seven shutout innings and allowed just four hits and struck out four batters.

The 40-year-old right-hander is 4-1 with a 3.44 ERA in nine career appearances against the Angels. Schilling faced Los Angeles in his third start of the season (April 14) at Fenway Park and worked eight scoreless innings, allowing four hits while striking out four and walking one in the Red Sox's 8-0 victory.

Boston comes into this series between division leaders having won the last two of a three-game series in Seattle and winners of 12 of its last 16 games. The Red Sox lead the season series against the Angels 3-0 after sweeping a set at Fenway Park in April.

Pitching matchup

BOS: RHP Curt Schilling (6-4, 4.20 ERA)

Schilling last took the mound June 18 in Atlanta when he allowed six runs and 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings of work as the Red Sox lost, 9-4, to the Braves.

LAA: RHP Jered Weaver (7-5, 4.00 ERA)

Weaver fought his command in one of his roughest starts of the season in Seattle on Wednesday night, surrendering six runs on 12 hits and one walk in six innings. His stuff was not as explosive as he needs it to be. It was the second straight time Weaver had yielded six earned runs, and he has surrendered 23 hits in his past 11 1/3 innings. Weaver is 0-1 with a 2.84 ERA in two career outings against the Sox.

Player to watch

David Ortiz has four hits in five career at-bats against Weaver with a home run and three RBIs
