That was the early reporting by Ken Rosenthal. Since the Seattle times has said otherwise, Rosenthal is now saying 90-100

Both players are pretty good.

 

That being said, I'd rather have the guy with the career .891 OPS, over the guy with a .818 OPS. Especially for $6 million less.

 

Ichiro's game is speed, and because of that, he can leg out a lot of infield hits. That explains why he has a career .357 BABIP. His contract is going to take him into his age 39 season, usually when Father Time starts kicking ass. His BA and OBP are going to take a slide.

And last offseason, to improve their offense they had just traded for Jose Vidro to be the new DH. Now passing the All-Star break, the M's will now have top prospect Adam Jones in right, Sexson at DH... and Vidro on the bench. They also traded top setup man Soriano for starting pitcher Horacio Ramirez. Oh and signed Jeff Weaver to an $8 million contract
