You know things are going bad when the expected ace (although he has sucked this year) and starting catcher fight with one another about a passed ball. There was a brief fight in the dugout, it later turned into something bigger in teh clubhouse. Discipline will be held out to both players naturally. Barrett was sent to the hospital for a split lip... seeing how big of a guy Zambrano is, Id wager it was something more serious than that. Both are free agents at the end of the season

The Cubs are just a straight up mess. And I love every minute of it. Their "fans" are THE most annoying group of degenerates on the planet.

In fairness, Barrett had it coming to him. I hate Pierzynski just as much as the next guy, but after Barrett socked AJ in the mouth last year you just knew it was going to come back around to him.

I don't think it was just for the passed ball though. Passed balls happen a lot and Zambrano's pitch had a LOT of movement to it, so it's understandable as to how Barrett missed it. If you watch the play you can see how Barrett's glove is positioned to his right side of the plate but the ball takes a sharp dive to his left. I believe Zambrano was more pissed about the bad throw that ended up in left field and the subsequent run that scored.

MLB suspended Cubs manager Lou Piniella indefinitely and fined him an undisclosed amount for his actions in Saturday's game.

Among other things, Piniella repeatedly kicked dirt on third base umpire Mark Wegner. What made it even worse is that he didn't even truly believe that Wegner made the wrong call on the play. It was a calculated move designed to fire up his team. We'd take no issue with a month-long suspension. It has to be extremely humiliating to just stand there in full view of 35,000 people when another guy is kicking dirt on you. In any other situation, Piniella would have gotten himself punched in the face and woke up in a hospital bed the next day.

Snowball effect for this team that spent $300 million in the offseason. Someday the Cubs fans' years of agony will be over

I thought the suspension was because he made contact with the umpire. He kicked him unintentionally while trying to kick dirt on him.

I need to see the replay of this

Ted Lilly was ejected from Sunday's game in the first inning after throwing at and hitting Edgar Renteria.

Well, there's a real chance it was intentional, as there was some tension after Tim Hudson drilled Alfonso Soriano to begin Sunday's game. Still, Lilly wasn't ejected immediately after going up and in on Renteria with two outs in the first tonight. It was hard to tell exactly what led to umpire Jim Wolf's decision.

Damn if you want to watch a team that gets down and dirty, its this years Cubs.

Derrek Lee was ejected from Saturday's game in the fourth inning after a benches-clearing brawl in the game against the Padres.

Chris Young went up and in on Lee and got him on the hand-wrist area with the pitch. It didn't look like anything would happen, but Lee started to say something to Young and Young met him a few feet from home plate. While Young only seemed to be interested in talking, Lee threw a wild haymaker that missed and Young came back with a similar attempt that also failed to connect. Fortunately, Marcus Giles was able to pull Young away before any damage could be done. Another pile got started after the benches cleared, with Carlos Zambrano right in the middle of it, but the Young-Lee fight was the clear highlight.
