even if the rockies pay the entire contract' date=' as ORS poignantly corrected me on, the cap is based on AAV. Hence why ARod counts for 25 mil n our cap even though the rangers are paying 12 a yr on it. So Helton's contract will hit the cap with full brunt force. The cap is what the sox wish to stay under.[/quote']

Ehhh I think this offseason has shown that the Sox aren't concerned with spending money.

I think that if they are to go for it all in '07 Helton could very likely be a piece of the puzzle.

The same reason they haven't done the Helton deal.

Too many questions for too much money.

therein lies the problem though. If they deal for Helton now and get him on the cheap and he does show that he is finally healthy, then it is a steal. If they wait and Helton shows he is back in AS form, then he will be expensive.

This isn't what I told you about AAV. You were saying deferred money didn't go against the cap. In other words, you think the cap hit is reduced if the player allows defered money on the back end. This isn't true. The total value of the contract is evenly distributed over the number of contract years for an AAV, and the AAV number is what goes into LT considerations. When another team is paying part of the AAV, then that team takes that portion of the AAV on their total AAV of contracts. Thus, with ARod, the Yankees are paying (I think) $17M AAV per year with Texas picking up the other $8M.

Pretty much says there no chance of it getting done. If Hansen doesn't figure out something about his delivery, I wouldn't mind seeing them deal him. But he might come out of it. He needs to be in AAA this season. Last yrs pitching coach really f***ed this guy up, I mean throwing a baseball shouldn't look like your throwing a shock put, and I don't see how his new delivery is more healthy for his arm.
