Crunch

This whole comparison of Wang and Beckett is ridiculous. It all started with some folks on here wanting to raise Beckett up and proclaim he was a legitimate #1 or #2 in the AL East. ********!! You know it and I know it. His numbers don't support it, his trips to the DL don't support it and that blister thing, well if it keeps him from being able to throw that monster curve and hitters sit on his fastball ........

his health shouldnt be a question this season bb

no

becks isnt a 1 here in the al

he isnt a 2 on our team with schill paps and even dice ahead of him

too early to tell here

beckett has been nothing but inconsistant since he stuck it up 55,000 yankee fans asses that saturday nite in october 3.5 years ago but he did win 16 last year

Actually' date=' it fits this discussion perfectly. It has nothing to do with what they will do this season, much like a lot of the items that have been offered throughout this and other discussions regarding Beckett. Many here believe his magical mystery tour in the Bronx in 2003 somehow raised Beckett to greatness when in fact he pitched his ass off for one game, period! Take into account his 10 trips to the DL in 5 years, his never having pitched 200 innings in a season prior to coming to Boston, his gopher ball servings last year, the fact that he was traded for the NL ROY and a guy who pitched a no-no last year speaks volumes. My point here is, don't compare Beckett and Wang, it's like comparing apples and oranges. The Sox could have 8 Wang's for the price of Beckett which would have accounted for 24 more wins for the Sox and an AL East Pennant.[/quote']

No, it doesn't fit the discussion. The discussion was how some stats are indicative of what results will be. Last time I checked, salary didn't show up in the boxscore. Oh, and if you have a problem with Wang being in the discussion, take it up with one of your brethren, Wacko Jacko. He ushered him in.

My brethren wasn't the one who jumped in the discussion with a smart ass comment, you were. Just keep believing that Josh Beckett was a comparable replacement for Pedro. There are many here that are quick to point out the Yankees spending habits and the lack of production they get in return, my point is $4.3 M for 16 victories or $353,000 for 19 wins, who got the better deal.

I think Beckett's health will always be a question as long as he is susceptible to blisters on his pitching hand. It limits his ability to throw certain pitches and makes him predictable. That's not a good formula for success, especially with the hitters in the AL East.

I didn't jump into the discussion with a smartass comment. I asked a legit question. What Jacko said made no sense (I got the original meaning, so it still doesn't make sense). And, here's the big thing, I stayed on topic instead of lobbing in some irrelevant comment.

Well, I asked a legitimate comment in another Beckett posting and still have not seen a legitimate answer, what in Josh Beckett's career makes him a legit #1 or #2 in the AL East? His .529 winning percentage? His durability? Jacko's WHIP comment, on the surface doesn't make sense, but reflecting on what I think he was trying to say, it does. A pitcher who throws groundballs as opposed to a pitcher who throws balls that leave the park stands a better chance due to the probability of those ground balls becoming outs. I do believe player's salaries are relevant though because they reflect a teams return on investment, an area where the Yankees have not done so well since the late 90's and an area that the Sox may be stepping into now.

who ever fkn said this? Krist this discussion has grown some legs and i think BL is the one spreading the fertilizer.

if you consider investment important then consider that we got 16wins from beckett for 4M

how many did mussina give you at 19M or rj at 17M?

the blister thing with becks wasnt an issue last summer

its in the past much like the yankee dynasty

we expected him to be the next Ace of Boston when he came in last year' date=' but he bombed, or got bombed after only throwing fastballs.....[/i']

so is the reason he didnt throw many secondary pitches last year because he was afraid of cutting his finger again?

I wasn't the first one to bring this up.

Exactly Crunch. And I already stated the Yankees spending since the late 90s on guys who didn't perform to their salaries is well documented. But in Wang's case, they finally got some extra bang for the buck. What caused Beckett to stop throwing that curve last year?

He's not a legit #1 or #2 right now, not given how he threw the ball last year. The excitement is due to the fact that he has shown that he can be a legit #1 stopper, though. He was good more often than bad last year, with 15 of his 16 wins coming from quality starts. The problem is that when he was bad, he was horrid. He gets consistent, and he's contending for the Cy. Every year.

Salaries are relevant in discussions of value. That wasn't the case here. Hell, Wang and Beckett weren't really even being discussed comparatively whole-scale, it was just the GB vs. WHIP components of their game.

wow, I see that, but one comment by one individual who expected him to be a future ace doesn't mean he was THE replacement for Pedro0

You're trying to connect the dots without following the numerical sequence.

So if your picture was supposed to look like Jessica Alba's nude body I think you've got something along the lines of Captain Kangaroo with a coke bottle up his ass.

cuz the talent is already watered down enough.

s***, under your plan, Lenny DiNardo could go to the WBL and be an ace.
