Gammons is saying that Manny will be dealt by the weekend and the likely suitor will be the white sox, which really makes little sense to me, but hear me out.

The White Sox have a terrible left fielder and a terrible centerfielder. They have a stud 3b in Crede and a top prospect in Fields. There have been rumors about the Angels dealing Ervin Santana and Chone Figgins to CWS for Freddy Garcia and Joe Crede. Then the white sox could pair Ervin Santana and a few other prospects to go to the red sox for Manny. That would move Wake to the pen and give the sox a rotation of Schilling, Matsuzaka, Beckett, Papelbon and Santana. That would be a solid rotation, but the offense would be flat out pathetic. And dont even give me the JD Drew BS, he cannot hold Manny's jockstrap and Papi would become a non-factor unless the sacks are packed. Then again, young pitching is like gold and hitters can be bought. So what they may give up this season in hitting, they can likely garner next offseason and what they have in pitching will likely last a long time. Smart coup if they can do it, BUT it is only solid if they pony up some cash for a big basher next season.

No one here will give you the JD Drew bs, I think the Sox fandom recognizes him for what he is...and in Fenway that could mean he's an 18HR guy.

Anyway, your closing statement seems to touch on something I've wondered recently...despite the Sox going after Matsuzaka and possibly Drew, are they REALLY trying to put the best possible team on the field this year? Or are they targeting 2008?

Theo nevers reveals his plans until late. This season, Cashman is following the same philosophy. It seems as if Cashman is content with letting what he has ride this season and make moves next yr. This may be the sox best chance, but if they target 08, then the jays may be the dark horse. Now wouldnt that be sickening.

what is there to say we would not get Crede or figgins out of the deal?

Figgins is the CF the White Sox would center the deal around and the angels need a 3b. If you think either will end up in Boston, I think you would be wrong.

The White Sox have very few prospects worthy of being put in with Santana in a deal for Manny, especially with Josh Fields needing to be Crede's replacement should this trade go down. I'd prefer a move to the Dodgers. The Sox could definitely pry Broxton and Loney (I'd prefer LaRoche if possible), and possibly another minor leaguer, or if it is legal in the rules of baseball, ask the Dodgers not to offer JD Drew (and Julio Lugo??)arbitration (allowing the Sox to keep the 20th pick in an absolutely stacked draft).

i agree. The only team i can see making a fair deal for Manny is the Dodgers. They have enough good young players to move for Manny

Broxton, Kemp and Greg Miller for Manny???

Maybe then move Miller, Crisp and Hansen in a package for A Jones??

Here is a Manny trade for everyone to consider: (just my idea)

Manny Ramirez and maybe Mike Lowell? or a medium prospect

for

Howie Kendrick, Orlando Cabrera and Scot Shields

Or to Dodgers for Kemp, Nomar and Billingsley.

Frankly, I am looking for a corner infielder, and it does not matter which position, because Youk can play either. Mike Lowell can be upgraded and there are tons of guys who would do the trick. Orlando Cabrera is my top pick for SS.

So not only they going to be weaker in LF but also at third base. Weak Weak trade.

Any trade involving Manny is a mistake. Even if you put Drew behind Ortiz, which would be pretty bad for a cleanup hitter, Ortiz would always be walked. You need Manny hitting behind him for protection. The lineup is looking weak enough as it is. Unless we are getting Young and Tex or Pujols, or Johan Santana, it is a bad trade.

How about this, why doesn't the front office try to please Manny. Maybe he's upset at our organization? Why don't we do everything we can to make one of the best hitters in baseball happy. If it means having to DEAL with him, well, that comes with the job.

Ortiz should bat 4th then and allow Drew the luxary of increasing his numbers with that high OBP.
