for a guy like Pierre, he doesnt get onbase enough. I mean he hit .292 with a .330 OBP.

I think he was more deserving of a 6-7 mill a year contract .

This does give the Dodgers 2 of the fastest guys in baseball at the top of their order though.

Yeah kinda like when the Marlins had Pierre and Castillo. Made a deadly speed bunch at the top. s***, I wish I was fast...then I could get a $9 million dollar a year deal to play baseball.

Wow another crazy contract. What is with this spending spree in the offseason. Guys are really getting way too much money I mean common Pierre is getting 40 million more then he should be. The guy is worth 5-7 million not 45 Million. Seems like teams are just signing players for whatever ridiculous amounts of money they request. What's next is Barry Zito going to get a 1 year 400 million dollar contract.

What happened to that kid Kemp i've been hearing so much about. Wasn't he supposed to be the CF in 08 for LA?

5 yrs 45 million for Juan Pierre is absolutely ridiculous

Paying 45 million for 5 years of an established big league player who had to most hits in the NL last year is ridiculous ... but giving 51 million just to talk to an unproven kid is OK... ? :dunno:

Such hypocrites.

Juan Pierre barely has a .300 OBP. That's terrible for a leadoff hitter.

Paying him $9 mil/yr is a pretty bad deal.

Paying $51 million is a bit ridiculous, but the reward of Matsuzaka could be much greater than that of Pierre.

Right or you could get absolutely nothing out of Matsuzaka. At least with Pierre you can look back at his carrer ... in MLB ... not some minor league ... and you know what you might get. Yes maybe you overpaid, but you know that unless something drastic happens you're going to get that kind of production. The Sox have no idea what Matsuaka could possibly do in MLB. You can say what you want about his numbers in Japan, but you have no idea what he is capable of in MLB.

I'd much rather spend 45 million for 5 years of a sure thing, than 51 million for a cup of coffee with an unknown.

I think the worst you get out of Matsuzaka is a #3 starter....which is something the Sox didn't have last year.

Paying Juan Pierre $9 million a year is absolute insanity. But then again overpricing players is the state of the market nowadays.

I do think Matsuzaka will be worth more to the Sox than Pierre will be to the Dodgers.
