Coco to have surgery on finger Monday

Red Sox manager Terry Francona said that Coco Crisp is scheduled to undergo surgery on his left index finger Monday. We're still awaiting some word of explanation from team medical director Thomas Gill--Francona said Gill would offer further details--but there is a fracture in the bone that will require a pin or a screw to be inserted. At this point, I cannot tell you with any certainty whether there is some separation at the point where the bon e fractured back in April. I assume that to be the case, but that is purely speculation on my part. I am sure Dr. Gill will elaborate later tonight in a statement. Crisp is back in Boston...Francona said he will be ready for the start of spring training.

It's not completely irrevelant anyway. This just puts a nail in the coffin of his season, and how perfectly that describes his season. He was downright dreadful.

Crisp looked entirely different as a hitter before the injury than after, but he is not a good CF. The injury did not affect his late or bad jumps on balls.

Not at his salary. Also, he has a terrible arm, so he would not be the ideal defensive replacement.
