ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Toronto Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay was knocked out of Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Angels in the first inning when Garret Anderson lined a single off his pitching elbow.

Halladay departed after 16 pitches with two out and runners at first and third. He was replaced by Josh Towers, who pitched for the first time since being recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday.

It was the right-hander's first relief appearance since Aug. 30, 2003, when he worked 2 2/3 innings for his only save in the big leagues. Towers was 1-9 with a 9.11 ERA in 12 starts this season before getting sent to the minors on June 27.

Halladay, who won the 2003 AL Cy Young award with a 22-7 record and a career-high 204 strikeouts, missed the second half of last season after a line drive off the bat of Texas' Kevin Mench broke a bone in his left leg and prevented him from starting in the All-Star Game.- ESPN

Personaly i think this sucks i thought he was a definite cy young winner this year even though Santana is the other big candidate. Halliday has been good all year and Santana has been great the majority of the year. I think he wasnt that good first few weeks/month of baseball

I think Johan Santana would have something to say about that.

true, no doubt...but its a good pot to stir.

even considering that Halladay does what he does against the likes of the Sox and Yanks more times per year, without possessing the 'K' ability of Santana, the bottom line I guess is Santana's numbers are more dominant.
