He was snubbed last year....what do you guys think? Hes putting up awesome numbers again, or do you think the lack of games (27) pitched so far because of his DL stint will keep him off yet again?

He quietly does his job day in and day out and not much is ever really said about the guy, but like fine wine seems to only be getting better as he gets older.

He's definitely worthy of going but Ozzie Guillen is the manager so he has no shot. If Francona did not pick him last year then Ozzie will certainly not pick him this year. And besides 3 relievers are pretty a given already to go. Papelbon, Ryan, Jenks(only makes it pretty much because of ozzie).

I totally agree about Jenks. If it wasn't for Ozzie the guy with the 2nd most Saves in the AL(22) definatly wouldn't be on the team .................................................

Eh, He had a better year last year. He hasn't been amazing this year, but he's still been solid. I'd give it to someone more deserving, theres only so many spots.

in the AL, I cannot think of many All-Star middle relievers, it will be all starters and closers, kind of weird.

I think Oscar Villareal from Atlanta has a 50/50 shot at making the NL team.

Yeah a guy who is 23/24 in saves with a 2.55 Era and 41ks in 35 innings definitly shouldent be an allstar...<_>

His ERA is hovering near five. Smoltz or Andruw Jones will be the lone representive for the Atlanta Braves.

Yeah I think Jenks deserves to go anyway...Rivera IMO does not. 22 saves' date=' 2.62 ERA is very good, we tend to forget that with Papelbon having a ridiculous ERA.[/quote']

That's a bad case of homerism going on right there.

You might have forgetten that Rivera's ERA is 1.98 with 17 saves.

ozzie takes rivera over timlin no question

but

does he snub his own guy, rivera or paplebon

1 of them aint going but which one

that being said if paple dont go it will be a travesty of justice

Posted
there's no way you snub Papelbon unless he breaks down between now and the break

so if youre ozzy you then either snub your own closer who is also having a great year or the greatest relief pitcher ever?

You might have forgotten that Papelbon's ERA is .46, approx. 1.50 less than Rivera. He also has 23 saves.

OK?

We're debating the merits of whether Mariano Rivera should be an all-star.

Tell me, how is it possible to be this f***ing stupid?

Why not vote in four closers?

The AL all-star team had five of them last year. Rivera, Papelbon, Jenks, and Ryan will all make the team.

There is no closer that is having a better year than Papelbon, period. That alone makes his case for being an all-star
Posted

yeah i suppose he could

how many pitchers do they carry??

11-12??

he'd grab contreras burhle(sp) maybe freddy garcia and jenks from chicago then probably

schilling santana liriano halliday maybe kenny rogers or verlander or the setup guy who throws 100??can you rule mussina out??scotty kazmir is going for tampa i would guess

someones getting porked as usual and i suspect it wont be one of his own guys

Don't go too far out on that limb. ;)

(Though BJ Ryan is pretty close)

it doesnt matter how good a year hes having

this is 100% on ozzie guillen

paps is a rookie

ozzie takes care of his own and he maybe more likely to snub paps rather than say a veteran or a latin guy....

its all on the oz

and we know the way things go somebody deservings getting f***ed and somebody who dont deserve it will get in

OK, I will make it more clear.

I DO NOT THINK MO SHOULD BE AN ALL STAR PERIOD

i'd take rivera over anyone in baseball except perhaps paple and even thats a stretch considering the kids lack of experience

certainly over jenks ryan wagner nathan or gagne

hes been their MVP for 10 years

no questions asked

I sort of hope Timlin doesn’t get picked. It would be entertaining to see Timlin pitch in the AS game, but in the long run the rest could do him good. The downtime in the middle of the season could keep his arm fresher for when the games really matter.

Sort of the same argument could be made for Tek appearing also.

This is a reason why fans shouldn't pick the players. Joe Mauer should absolutely start at catcher, but instead Varitek, undeserving, will, because people have heard of him. Leave it up to the managers and coaches, and maybe even the players.
