He has a pretty good case for himself over A-Rod.

Here are their compared stats:

http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/stats/sortable_player_stats.jsp?statType=1&c_id=mlb&readBoxes=true&statSet1=null&venueID=&baseballScope=AL&prevPage1=1&teamPosCode=5&compare.x=30&compare.x=&timeFrame=1&sitSplit=&section1=null&subScope=pos&compare.y=8&timeSubFrame=2006&box1=XXXX121347nya5&box2=XXXX136780bos5&compare.x=&sortByStat=AVG&

In less AB's, Lowell has more hits, doubles, extra base hits, total bases, and a higher AVG, and SLG%. And not to mention WAY less K's.

Pretty good case for the first year Red Sox.

Don't forget errors.

a-rod will get votes from the baseball fans who are annoying and vote for people like him. true baseball purists and red sox fans will vote for the deserving candidate mike lowell.

For sure, people will go off of name alone sadly.

Oh give me a break.

A Rod is a better player than Lowell. And as we get closer to the all star game, his stats will be better too (it's debatable whether they're worse now anyways.) Deal with it.

No, we shouldn't have to "deal" with it. Overall, A-Rod may be the better player, but as far as this year goes up to this point in time, Lowell is better. A-Rod has done NOTHING this year to prove why he should play over Lowell in this game. If A-Rod ends up as the starting 3B, we will all know it's because he's A-Rod. And you know it too.

There's a reason that it's called the "2006 All-Start Game." Because it's the All-Star Game for 2006, as in whoever is playing well in the year of 2006 up until the all star break, those players should play. A-Rod will play only because of his name, not because of his performance in the first half of the 2006 regular season.

I was unaware we're already halfway through the season and the game was this week. I'm astonished that some of you are acting as if A-Rod playing over Mike Lowell would be some great crime against baseball.

Anyways, you're right. When the game rolls around A-Rod will play in it over Lowell because he's A-Rod, the better player.

Who cares if he's better. Lowell has better stats THIS YEAR. And it's the All-Star game for THIS YEAR.

And the game isn't for more than A MONTH (see, I can press the shift button too.) The stats aren't going to be the same when the game is played. And, once again, it's debatable whether Lowell's stats are even that much better than A-Rod's right now.

Aren't you the one that's always asking people if they have crystal balls?

You don't need a crystal ball to know A Rod is a better player than Mike Lowell.

It's debatable because you are a yanks fan! A-Rod's stats will be there because of days like yesterday when it's a blowout and he rips 2 HR's off the royals:rolleyes: Meanwhile when it counts he's a brick at the plate and in the field. Not to mention the facts that E-rod was expected to have great numbers--and he's trending down now-----------------while lowell was considered a "throw-in" for beckett and is trending up. We'll see what happens in the next month!

What you implied was that his stats would be better. We all know that overall, A-Rod is probably the better player. But as of right now, and unless A-Rod goes on some monster streak and Lowell goes into a skid, Lowell is on pace to have the better stats come all star break. I mean, I'm not going to argue with you in that A-Rod's overall a better player, I'm just saying that so far, for the first half of the 2006 regular season, Mike Lowell has been playing better. That's all. I understand there's still more than a month left, but since voting has already started, the voters should be voting for Mike Lowell if they choose to vote now. Am I incorrect?

He's not so far this year!

No, it's debatable if you open your eyes. I know I'm asking for a lot here, but stick with me. A-Rod has scored more runs, batted in more runs, hit more HRs, walked more, stolen more bases, has a better OBP, and so on. I know you'd like to ignore those, but you can't. I'm sorry.

Yeah...I'm the homer in this debate. Too funny.

When it counts he's a brick? Heh...Schilling might disagree.

Take off the pinstriped glasses Optimist, look at the stats, Lowell has been better this year....PERIOD.

Wow, A-Rod has had 1 CLUTCH hit in his whole career, maybe he should talk to Ortiz, he could learn something.

Again, I'm the homer in this debate? Hilarious!

Whatever, feel free to believe Lowell is better and A Rod never comes through in the clutch. Whatever helps you, I guess. :dunno:

Lowell > A-Fraud

Especially if you throw out a bunch of those unimportant stats like OBP and RBIs. You guys should have no problem with that.

Well there's the stats!

ARod should be the better player, he is getting paid 3 times more than Lowell. He is also a # 3 or 4 hitter for the Yankees, when Lowell will be batting 6th, 7th or even 8th for the Sox. However, Lowell is the superior fielding third baseman.

And Lowell has better stats this year. So, Lowell should be starting.
