All I can say is What The f***.

I got to admit, I'm pretty damn impressed with the Cubs ball club. Getting swept by any team in Florida is a remarkable achievement.

Well, they do have some excuses. Derek Lee is out, but why did the Cubs replace him with Chick Gandil? Greg Maddux with Eddie Cicotte? Wait, I'm confusing the Cubs with the 1919 White Sox. There's not much of a difference really. The only way you get swept by the Marlins is if you throw all three games. That's how pathetic the Cubs look. It's only getting worse. Michael Barrett is on the verge of being suspended for 20 games, and the Cubs replace him with Henry Blanco? You could grab nine people from the amputee wing at the hospital, and they could outhit the Cubs. At this rate, the Cubs probably couldn't even beat the Royals. Not the KC Royals, I meant the GCL Royals. That club probably doesn't even exist, but they'd still destroy the Cubs.

Oh, and I heard they wanted to extend Dusty Baker's contract. All I can say, is why? They should just contract the Cubs and end the suffering of their fans. With the level of stupidity traveling around the organization, they'll never win a World Series.

perhaps the only franchises run worse than the cubs are in ny and the yanks arent even on the list

the knicks and jets come to mind

kerry wood and aaron prior set this franchise back 10 years

they were supposed to be the A and B fdrever, instead they lost games 6,7 at home against the marlins and then took 2 years off.

Dusty Baker isn't the GM. He also didn't injure Lee, and make Maddux go 0 for May, after undefeated April. They do suck, I agree. But hardly Baker's fault. Though I don't really care for him, can't fault him too much. Almost feel sorry for him.

I'll blame Dusty Baker for allowing a twenty-three year old to throw 211 IP in one year, and allowing that same twenty-three year old to throw 138 pitches in a complete game against the Brewers in 2003. Anyone remember the Mark Prior injury? He got hurt, and instead of being coddled, Baker went right back with him.

Anyone else remember Baker's lineups last year? He went with Neifi Perez and Corey Patterson at the top of the lineup, all summer. I guess he doesn't realize that you have to get on base to win ball games.

The Cubs didnt really have a good OBP leader type guy to go with though...

Who would they have used?

Thats funny. I drafted 8th in my 12 team roto cash league. David Ortiz and D Lee were both there. I went with Papi and not Lee... The team who took Lee is 9th place.

You're telling me that they could have done worse than Patterson, and Perez?

Perez's OBP was .298, and Patterson's was .254. Yet, Baker constantly wrote their names at the top of the lineup. Baker could have been more creative. He could have slid Todd Walker into the lead off slot. Walker had an OBP of .355. Not great, but it's still dramatically better than that of Perez or Patterson.

Is this the "Official 2006 Chicago Cubs Thread" :-)

How on earth do any of you catch the Cubs on TV? Since WGN was taken off the Boston area cable systems, I haven't seen my cubbies live in years unless I go to Wrigley.

CB, I just noticed your location. Do they still drink caine, lime & soda down there? Enjoy. Some of the best looking birds on the planet are in Capetown.

thank you

the cubs have had some monumental meltdowns over the last 20 years

1 game and 5 outs away in 03

up 2-0 in 84 then getting swept

that franchise may indeed be the worst run franchise in sports

I heard the deal was done on another sports site.

Prob so.

But clicking on that link would require another pushing of the finger. I was unwilling to make that risk. Would you be? :dunno:

Kidding aside, you're right. The deal is done.

Minor controversy?

The Cubs are expected to sign 11th-round draft pick Chris Huseby to a deal Wednesday that will include a $1.3 million signing bonus.

That has some analysts up in arms. They believe it is too much money for an 11th-round pick. According to the TC Palm (a newspaper in Palm City, Fla.) Web site, the lowest-picked player in the 2005 draft to receive a bonus of at least $1 million was the 33rd overall pick. The Cubs drafted Huseby 329th.

The Cubs said they have no comment on Huseby until he signs. Cubs insiders say history shows players drafted low have been given high money.

Huseby pitched just five games in his junior and senior years at Martin County High School in Stuart, Fla., because of arm surgery. He was headed to Auburn on a baseball scholarship, and some believe he has first-round talent.

"Even for the wealthiest organization, $1.3 million to an 11th-round pick seems outrageous," Rivals.com baseball analyst Kendall Rogers told the TC Palm. "I have never heard an 11th-round-slot guy getting first-round money."

Huseby recently visited Wrigley Field and threw a bullpen session in front of Greg Maddux.

The Cubs give 1.3 million to an 11th rounder, with arm problems. Another terrible move. Firing Baker and Hendry would help move the club toward the right direction.
