It wasn't a scoop play. Giambi is one of the worst defensive first basmen in baseball and Cairo is a second baseman, and he BARELY snowconed that ball. No way that ball finds it way into Giambi's web.

Like I said, I didnt see the play. I had just assumed it was a scoop play. My mistake. If it was a scoop play I would keep arguing in Giambi's favor. Now that I know it wasnt, I cant do that.

I don't doubt he catches it, but I do doubt he turns in mid-air to make the tag. Maybe two runs don't score, but Loretta is safe at 1st with one run in.

Please, thats a little bit of an exxageration right there. He was forced to learn how to scoop and play good around the bag playing in Oakland with all the foul territory, and watching him on an everyday basis I can say that he's pretty damn good at the bag.

 

In the field actually making plays is another thing, but when it comes to the bag, Giambi is the man.

I'm using MLB.com Gameday for this one. They list Pena at 245, (which was obviously a slip of the tongue, or faulty info) and they list Cario at 6-1.
