True, i thought that NESN (don't remember who, Remy mabey) made a good point yesterday saying that Shill's best 2 seasons were when he was part of a great 1-2 punch. With RJ in Arizona and Pedro in 04---let's hope the trend continues:D

I think part of it is because Schilling is so competitive that having another top of the line starter in the rotation pushed him even further than he usually does. Also last year Schilling wasn't really healthy so you kind of have to ignore that.

I think Clement getting hit in the head was a convenient excuse but not necessarily a good one. Throughout his career he's always struggled with inconsistency and being less effective down the stretch. Beckett hasn't had that problem, but he also hasn't pitched 200 innings because of blister problems-- so who knows how he'll react when/if his blisters allow him to sustain the additional workload.

Its also been easily forgotten that Clement was rocked in his 2 starts before that Tampa Bay game. Those 2 bad outings came against Chicago & NY.

On two occasions this season Josh Beckett has pressed his right cleat against the rubber to see a runner on third base with only one out. The result: four batters faced, four Ks, zero runs.
