Well as we all know former Tigers firt baseman Carlos Pena was released back at the end of Spring Training. Carlos is a great defensive first baseman but lacks consistancy with the bat. I remember when he was coming up with Oakland how much people raved about this kid, and was considered to be a huge part in the trade.

Well, i'm surprised nobody has picked him up...but that might soon change.

Appearantly manye believe he will end up with the Yankees. Other teams interested in him are the Red Sox, Dodgersm and the Chiba Lotte Marines, 2005 NPB Champions and managed by Bobby Valentine.

Would be very interesting to see what happens if he were to come to the Yanks. Obviously he would start it out in Columbus, but when/if he were to get the call it would be interesting to see how everybody else is affected. Phillips would lose his job as the backup first baseman, but due to his versatility in the infield could just become a utility infielder (his natural position actually isnt even 1B, but rather 2B ). But would be interesting to see who loses their roster spot for Pena considering almost nobody has options left. As it is, when Small/Pavano come back Proctor/Hill will lose their roster spots (Proctor will be optioned down to AAA, but Hill, who has no options left will have to be DFA'd). And then when Dotel comes back there is no telling who misses out on a roster spot. SO like I said, it would be an interesting scenario to see who loses their job in the organization. Only way I can see it working is if somebody suffers an injury. Like a Phillips, Giambi, Cairo, or Crosby or something.

Anyways, just thought I would share the article.
