Beckett makes Fenway debut as Red Sox host Blue Jays

Toronto (3-3) at Boston (5-1) 2:05 pm EDT

BOSTON (Ticker) -- Josh Beckett began his tenure with the Boston Red Sox by putting on a show in his home state. He hopes to deliver an equally impressive performance in front of his new home fans.

Beckett makes his second start of the season Tuesday when the Red Sox play their home opener against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Acquired in an offseason trade with the Florida Marlins, Beckett will be counted on to help anchor Boston's starting rotation this season.

The hard-throwing righthander was brilliant in Wednesday's 2-1 victory over the Texas Rangers. A native of Spring, Texas, Beckett allowed one run in seven innings to notch the win in his Red Sox debut.

If Boston wants to extend its winning streak to five games, it will have to do so against Toronto righthander Josh Towers (0-1, 7.71).

A six-year veteran, Towers yielded five runs - four earned - and 10 hits in just 4 2/3 innings of a 13-4 loss to Minnesota on Wednesday.
