Congrats Hanley!

JUPITER, Fla. -- As a rising prospect, Hanley Ramirez was called up from Double-A Portland by the Red Sox last September and enjoyed a two-week stint in the big leagues.

The 22-year-old shortstop from the Dominican Republic is now on the verge of becoming a full-time player with the Marlins.

Based on how he's performed this spring, Ramirez has locked down the starting shortstop spot on a youthful squad.

I'll tell you what, if he puts up a line that is 90% of that and Beckett has an early DL stint, then the attack dogs at WEEI will be unrelenting in their assault of the FO for making that move. Personally, that was a textbook "must do" trade from the Sox perspective, but that won't change the hindsight analysis from the talking heads in Boston's aggressive media.

Hope hanley does well, although he's still real young! I know we needed to do this trade, but i wish we could have done it without giving up hanley! I just have that feeling that we are going to regret losing him!

We still got Pedroia, if he can just stay healthy for us.

A recent article in the Boston Herald had noted that Pedroia will be Pawtucket's opening day shortstop & for throughout the season. He could make his major league debut mid-season. Alejandro Machado will enter the season as Pawtucket's opening day 2nd baseman.

Hopefully he'll bust out. It's always nice to see talent pan out, especially when its not on a direct opponent. As long as Beckett does well, I won't be pissed.

I think we gave up on him to soon.

When you can net a potential ace in Josh Beckett giving up a guy like Hanley is worth it. Hanley has a ton of tools but at some point you have to turn the tools into stats and he really never did that in the minors.

Hanley's breaking out his power stroke tonight with his first ever HRs. He's currently 2-2, 2 HR, 3 RBI. I think he likes Eric Milton's offerings.
