There is an article in Newsday, saying that the Yanks and Sox should trade Manny and Sheffield straight up. It would give the Sox salary relief that they want, get Manny out of town, and maybe make Sheffield happy, especially if the Sox picked up his option. Right now it is just some columnists dumb idea, but what do you guys think?

That is the absolut worst idea I've ever heard. That columnist should be fired for suggesting something so dumb.

I only think it would make Shef happy for a short time. As you can see, he has a track record for getting board in one place and then starts bitching so he can get dealt to another team. No thanks to Shef

Well it's not just that Sheff is a cry baby bitch. We'd be giving our biggest competition one of the best hitters in the game.

never would i want sheffield on the red sox. he is older and not as good of a hitter as manny.

I am not sure that the Sox have been trying to get equal value for him (because that is nearly impossible), but just get rid of him and that big salary that Duquette gave him.

However, I do think this would be a dumb trade and I don't want Sheffield anywhere near a Red Sox uniform.

if the red sox just wanted to get rid of him already they would have done it already but the red sox want value for manny and guess what they should. he doesn't get traded unless value comes back to the red sox.

I never said they didn't want value for him, but you are never going to get equal value for him. The reason it has been so hard to trade him is that salary. No one wanted him when he was put on waivers a couple years ago, but maybe you don't remember that?! <_>

i do remember he was put on waivers. of course his salary is ridiculous and is the reason he is still here. but i would not be shocked that he gets dealt in maybe the final year of the deal.

Hey, welcome to Talksox man. Consider making a thread in the 'introduce yourself' forum.

This deal will never happen; and thank God for that! I can't think which would be worse: having manny in a yankers uniform, or having Sheff in a sox one! (although odds are he would be on the dl long before he actually put a uniform on)

I'll be installing a modification shortly which asks members who post in threads older than X days old "Are you sure you want to bring this thread back up. It's more than X days old. Is the post relevant....etc"

This would be a pretty good trade. Manny is a good player but he has a awful attitude. Shef would be a good person to have in Boston.

No we don't want someone like Sheffield for Manny. Sheffield doesn't even come close to comparing too Manny Ramirez at all. I can't believe someone who even be stupid enough to write about that.

Heyman wasnt serious. He was just throwing it out there in a frustrated manner due to the frustration the two clubs were experiencing with their respective players. He knows that it would never happen, and didnt say it would. Jon Heyman is a very well respected baseball writer and very credible when it comes to the Hot Stove.

I cant believe anybody thought he was seriously suggesting it.

This is not a good trade for the Red Sox.
