Which city do you think has the most knowledgable sports fans in all 4 major sports (baseball, football, basketball, hockey)?

Well its DEFINATELY not Phoenix. And I'll tell you why...

When I was at the D'Backs/Mets game last year when Pedro was pitching and had his no hitter broken up in the 7th, like one person cheered, in the whole damn place and it was a Mets fan applauding his efforts.

lol thats some funny stuff. I went to a d-backs game the 1st year in '98, it was neat, but I just can't stand the retractable stadiums, they dont seem like real baseball stadiums to me.

Detroit.

eh :dunno:

Detroit is probably underrated as a sports city, often overlooked past Boston, NYC, Chicago, Philly, LA, etc. I'm sure it's probably a decent sports town, I just don't like Detroit at all. I've never been, and the only way I'd go is if I had to go to Comerica to complete going to every MLB stadium lol.

I shouldve added this in the last post but o well whatever...

Anyways, Moose, do you think LA should be considered on this list?

I've heard different things. I've heard the fans tend to only really support the teams when they are winning, and they will jump on the bandwagon like none other. I've also heard some (but not all ;)) don't seem quite as "sports smart" as other places like say Boston or NYC.

We don't have an NFL team. But what the hell, we have enough bandwagon NFL fans here, who are suddenly Bucs, Colts, Steelers, Pats, or Eagles (last year) "fans." However, there are still a lot of Raiders and Rams fans here. The media here treats the Chargers and Raiders as "LA teams." I hate it.

The other bandwagon fans are the so-called Laker/Clipper fans. Now those fans (most of them) are really Laker fans who need a place to hide because the Lakers suck. BTW, I've always been a Clipper fan.

People like TJ Simers and Bill Plaschke of the Los Angeles Times.

Yeah it was pretty sad actually, the funniest thing was, the Mets guy I was sitting next to was all "Alright, lets hear the cheers for the break-up of the no-hitter..." And it was basically silent with maybe another fan cheering and he's all "AWWW Come on! This isn't a baseball stadium!"

But about the stadium, I really enjoy going just because its baseball, and the seats are pretty cheap.

lol I know Plaschke from around the horn. He is an idiot if you ask me lol.

As for being a Clipper fan always, I applaud. Most people probably wouldnt admit to that, not that it's a bad thing ;)

Yeah, I mean it was a neat experience, the stadium is very nice, just again I just don't think its a real baseball stadium lol. If I lived in PHX I would definitly go too.

But it had to be retractable, because the people would die of freezing if it weren't.

Was the guy a New Yorker or just a Mets fan in Arizona?

Mets fan in Arizona. We got talking and hes a teacher down in like (I forgot the town) but somewhere in southern Arizona. But he was originally from New Jersey, and still had an accent. Hella cool guy too, some little kid wanted a ball and he went and talked to some escort lady in the isle and got one for the kid.

Retractables suck. Baseball is meant to be hot. Sometimes it rains. Games get rained out. It happens, its the way baseball is meant to be.

TRUST me you would NOT have that feeling if you lived even one summer here, the heat blows and when its nice out at night, its nice to have the roof open.

Ive always wanted to go to a retractable roof stadium. I always wanted to go to a Dome, and I always wanted to go to a cookie cutter/open air stadium with Astroturf. Always wondered what they were like. Looks like i'll never make it to the cookie cutter, and Minnessota is the last dome.

well, it wasn't a summer but I did spend 2 weeks in July out there. It sucked but still the game I went to started at 7:05 or 7:15 or whatever and the roof was closed, and I think it said it was still something like 98 inside there.

My favorite thing is sitting in the scortching sun on a Sunday afternoon watching a game. Maybe I'm weird but it is just fun to me, its the way baseball should be :D

Speaking of Astroturf, nobody uses that anymore, right? Teams that used to have that now use the fieldturf (fake grass).

INSIDE??? They keep it cool in there, normally 68 degrees, outside wouldn't shock me at all. Scorching sun...you must be miserable in that cold...thinking about being fried to a crisp...

God knew what he was doing, if we had humidity, the whole state of Arizona would be uninhabitable from April to October, and the death rate would be astronomical.

Tampa would beg to differ. I always had a low opinion of domed baseball based on the way it looked on TV. It seemed dingy because of the lack of bright natural light. Then, when I moved down here, I went to a game in Tampa, and I must say, the facility and the games are quite enjoyable.

Never been to a dome for a baseball game, but I have been to the RCA Dome in India-Crap-olis for Colts and college basketball, and also seen a HS football game there too. They also suck. Ive been to Riverfront Stadium several times before they blew it up. I actually somewhat liked it, I mean it wasnt great but I didn't hate it like I hate domes for baseball lol.

I just don't like domes. Basketball and hockey are indoor sports, baseball and football aren't. Thats just my opinion I guess, some may think otherwise.

I was 11 at the time, but I swear they put something on the scoreboard that said something like 110ish outside, 98ish inside. Maybe I'm wrong.

I'm from Indiana, but its still cold here though, but I wish I was in Boston.

yes. No more astroturf. The Twins and the Jays both have field turf. And the Devil Rays have a grass-like surface as well.

I agree with you on that. No doubt.

Thats right I forgot Tampa. Oops.

Yup they do that before every game. Sorta tradition like. 68 is the normal temperature, as per the Bud Light/Circle-K/D'Backs commercial. LMAO. But yeah, its normally comfortable in there. Plus, like I said about the scenery at US Airways Center, the scenery there is normally good too, better at Suns games but nice at Chase (BOB R.I.P. 1998-2005).

While I'm on the subject, I also hate Pro Player Stadium (for baseball) or whatever it is now (Dolphins Field maybe?). It's a freakin football stadium. Baseball shouldn't be played there!

I kinda hope the Fish move, or at least get a new stadium. One or the other is going to happen and its most likely going to be the move.
