the simple fact is Seattle had no big plays to win the game. None.

That statement would be 100% true if it were phrased "the fact is Seattle had no big plays to win the game that weren't taken away from the by the officials"

That phantom hold was priceless.

Almost as priceless as the cut block they flagged Hasselback 15 on when he made the tackle??????

2 tds called back on seattle,1 for the ""push off"" which consisted of an extension of the wideouts hand to maintain balance, the other on a phantom hold

1 call put them on the 35 instead of 1st and goal on the 1 ona another phantom hold

someone saw gentle ben cross the goal line and called it a td although 150,000,000 people who watched on tv didnt see it,the one guy in charge of making the call did.

150,000,000 people have the benefit of slow motion instant replay. There was no conclusive evidence to say that it was not a TD -- therefore it was not overturnable. I agree that he wasn't in, but I can't say that I'm anywhere close to 100% certain.

As for the pushoff. Any time -- I repeat... ANY TIME -- a WR extends his arm towards the defender, it will be a penalty. Particularly when it's done right in front of the official.

Red the debate is not whether its overturnable or not, its whether it should have been called a TD in the first place and it clearly should not have been.

Watch the replay

The LJ is running towards the play with his hand up to spot the ball.

There is indisputable proof of this - watch the replay.

THEN, Rottenburger pushes the ball over the goal line, after he is already down, and the ref's changes from spotting the ball to a TD.

You're right, the call should not have been overturned. It never should have been made in the first place and it was as clean a bag job as Polamatus pick in the Indy game and Ben Dreiths roughing the passer penalty in the New England Oakland game.

True, but the guy's calling the play in full speed from 20 feet away. It's not an easy call to make.

As for him running up with his hand up, I saw that, and was confused about that from the very start.

I don't know. Like I said, I don't think it was a TD, and it was a bad call, but I think people acting as though we just witnessed the worst officiated game ever are wrong.

I agree with Walrus. The line judge had his hand up to spot the ball/signal 4th down and then changed it to TD after Rotten**** moved the ball over after it was down.

Now that the season is over, it will be interesting to see if the NFL acknowledges mistakes made. More than likely, it will be brushed under the carpet

A ref on that crew was on the take. No doubt about it. The fix was in.

Montana was asking for a 100K to make an appearance with the rest of the MVPs ... He only wanted the same money the refs made that day

S&P - I think the NFL office will have to make some kind of statement because the entire postseason has been marred by horrible officiating

would you look at that big ben admits that he didnt think he crossed the line

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5313884

there you see it even the player admits it ,so there you f***ing go

You still have this crazy idea in your head that the officials make calls with the benefit of slow motion from 4 feet away from the play. Bad call? Yes. Worst ever? Hardly.

Good evening Red,

Do you think that the fact the NFL had to come out and publicly defend the officiating in the game tells you something?

Yeah, they come out and defend the referees all the time. Add to that the reaction, the fact that it was Super Bowl, and Mike Holmgren practically said there was a conspiracy against his team, I'm not going to buy into this either way. I only posted because people were curious as to what the NFL's reaction would be.

certainly does, it tells me that refs did a poor job and the NFL had to come out and cover their asses

this is a good point

my point is 150,000,000 people didnt see him cross the plane except the guy who had to make the call and if you noticed,he hesitated which essentially means he didnt see him cross,he guessed on the call and he guessed wrong.

the whole fkn game was a major disappointment to me crunch,,,it was about as exciting as a fart in a spacesuit...........I honestly believe that a healthy pats team could have beaten either one of those teams.........ben who????

Posted
the pats?? when are you gonna realize that the pats just werent good enough this year

guess you weren't reading my entire post. I said a "healthy" pats team...healthy as in a 100% tom brady....a healthy 100% rodney Harrison!!! a healthy 100% "tedy Brewskie"...

sorry to disagree with you son!!!! I just feel the way I feel...it's not that they weren't good enough,,,they weren't healthy enough...they'll be back next year with a vengance...

bottom line: the superbowl was really a let down for me. I expected a really terrific game and it just didn't happen. I just don't think that either team really showed up. just MHO!

You got it backwards. Both teams showed up too much. Seattles defense was too good for Pittsburgh to move the ball, and Pittsburgh's defense was too good to let Seattle score.

The problem wasn't a lack of effort ... it was total effort by two evenly matched teams.

Posted
it was boring and pathetic......both teams would have gotten their ass kicked had the pats been healthy. brady and company will take that trophy right out of porter's hand and return it to where it rightfully belongs.

ha! there it is! I liked how they had brady flip the coin....(in other words, enjoy it today boys, cause I'll be back next year)

Whoever wins the AFC in the next few years is going to have a walk to the SB, but getting there is going to be the hard part. IMO it's going to be a battle between the Pats, Steelers, and Colts for the right to go to the Super Bowl over the next few years.

oh no doubt it will be the steelers and the pats battling....the colts are always gonna be a bridesmaid but never a bride......why? cause peyton takes it firmly in the face...

People from all walks of life take bribes every day

Judges... policemen....BC baskteball players....mayors....

Why would anyone think Referees cannot be bought? And just because the NFL comes out and backs the refs doesn't mean a thing.

To not even admit the most obvious error - hassleback's phantom cut block - should tell you something's not right here.

The only conclusion I can draw from this pattern of questionable officiating that plaqued the playoffs is that the NFL had a hidden agend to put over certain teams. They tried their hardest to push Manning/Dungy (and they still screwed it up) and then the feel good story shifted to the Steelers.....for the bus... for Cowher....

Looking back.. there was absolutely, positively, no way the Seahawks were going to win that game. None whatsoever. Like the Walrus said - I hope the refs made a ton of money, cause selliing out one's integrity shouldn't come cheap.

Posted

After the INT by ... whatever Seahawk CB it was ... Seattle had every oppertunity to win that game. Don't blame officials for 2 missed FGs and the Seahawks allowing ... the big 3rd and long pass ... willie's 75 yard run ... and El's big pass.

BTW ... after all the scandel after the Steelers/Colts attempting screwing do you really think the NFL would risk trying to screw another team that soon? I dont think so.

Lastly, Steeler Nation is already the biggest fanbase in football. Us winning the SB does not help the league at all. On the other hand Seattle winning a SB would make for tons of new Seahawk fans, which would help the NFL. If the NFL is looking out for it's best interests, then they're trying to screw the Steelers out of the SB ... not the Seahawks.
