Alright people, since it's the biggest game of the year and the action is starting to pick up in Detroit, I figured I'd start this thread a few days in advance so we can get to talking about the Super Bowl.

Thank god Jerramy Stevens accidentally got Joey Porter started -- Porter seemed like the only man capable of making this game all that interesting to those outside of the two teams fanbases. I don't know about you guys, but until I got to watch Media Day on NFL Network, I was really having trouble getting into this game. The only interesting story for a while had been Jerome Bettis' homecoming and his first Super Bowl and blah, blah, blah -- but that got played out after like... a day.

Anyways, anybody have any predictions on the game?

I'm thinking 27-14 Steelers win it.

I like Seattle

Bill Cowhers history of big game failures is beyond pathetic and about the only thing in the Cowher era you can count on year in and year out is that inevitable shot where the TV camera pans up into the luxury suites and the Cowher girls (wife and two daughters) are all in tears cuz Daddy couldn't get it done in the big one again.

So until Bill Cowher proves he's something other than a Johnny-come-lately, Seattle will be where my money is bet

I think the Stevens - Porter thing will have absolutly not effect on the game. If Porter needs Stevens to say something to get fired up in the f'in SUPER BOWL, then he has problems. Even if Porter does well, and Stevens doesn't, I still don't think this has an effect.

(But good for the fans)

Can't wait for the game to start. GO HAWKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My prediction is 27-20.

Element, you would think the Steelers would have learned there lesson about shooting their mouths off in public after they came out in the media in 2002 and announced they'd be booking their rooms in New Orleans right before being bitch slapped by the Pats in the AFC Title game on their home field.

Joey Porter is not a very bright guy.

And Jabber Jaw did nothing to defuse the situation.

Very true, but I'm not convinced that Seattle is all that great still. If the game was being played at Qwest Field, then Seattle would win, no doubt in my mind. But outside of there, like I said, I'm not convinced. Plus, I'd be concerned with Shaun Alexander's big game failures if I was Seattle. I think Cowher's changed this year -- the team's been coming out throwing so far in the playoffs.

Has Shaun Alexander ever been in a big game besides the Iron Bowls he played in and the game 2 weeks ago?

Like I said, I thank god for Porter. He just made an otherwise unintriguing matchup interesting.

Well, I consider any playoff game a 'big game' -- and his playoff performances have been forgettable, outside of the NFC Championship game in which the running game was aided a lot by Hasselback's nearly flawless performance. A lot of his yards came after Hasselback had been carving Carolina apart. Even against Washington before he got concussed and left the game, he fumbled on the first possession.

Fair enough, I suppose, but if you exclude the Washington game where he got dinged in the noggin, he's only played in 3 playoff games and he has 226 yards and 5 TD's

Is it great?

No

But it ain't bad either.

I don't think his body of work is large enough to call him a big game choker, especially in light of Big Bad Bill and the 5 AFC Title games his teams have lost AT HOME. Plus the gag job in his first Super Bowl. Now THAT is big game failure.

Posted

One other thing about Alexander - in his one TRULY big game (The NCF Championship) he had 30 for 130 yards and 2 TD's in a post concussion 'daze'

And that was against a Carolina team with as good a front four as there has been in football since the turn of the century

Far be it from me to defend Bill Cowher, but I put that one more on Neil O'Donnell than Cowher. Cowher had his team ready enough to completely outplay the Cowboys. If not for O'Donnell completely missing the mark and finding Larry Brown twice, the Steelers probably win that one.

Thats true

Larry Brown should've blown Neil ODonnell because he made him $25 million that night.

Exactly. Stupid Raiders.

Ya man, he was a TOTAL bust

I hope he at least sends ODonnell a Christmas card each year!

Not to stray too far off-topic, but can you honestly think of any worse Free Agent signings in the NFL than the Raiders signing Larry Brown? The only one that comes to mind for me is the Lions signing Scott Mitchell, though he did have one good year.

How about T.O.?

Posted
Oooh, good one!

That said, I want my Broncos to sign him! :D

From what I've been readin they're the only team to show any interest.

With Jake the Sankes problems, I can see TO really having trouble with him.

your a Broncos fan eh?

You from Denver?

Not Denver, but a little more than an hour away from it.

Jake was really good this year, didn't make as many stupid plays. And it's like I've been saying, what's T.O. gonna do? Throw Jake Plummer under the bus? The entire city already did that -- so many people wanted Plummer gone. He doesn't seem to care about how others percieve him, either, he just goes out and plays football.

I read an article today that said if they can't get Owens, the Broncos are going to try and acquire Ricky Williams from the 'phins. Can you imagine him running behind that O-Line?

Shanahan must have some sort of fetish for troubled players or something.

Yeah, maybe

But his teams can generally run the ball.

I'm not a big Denver guy cuz the Pats NEVER used to beat them. f***ing Mosi Tatupu fumbled away a playoff game up there in 86 and they could never get it done until this run they've had lately. This years travesty excluded

I actually went to a Denver/Washington game in Mile High when I was out there on business in 95, the Broncos beat them 38-31.

I like the city

i like seattle to win the game outright, never mind the 4 point cushion.

pitt hasnt run the ball at all in the playoffs

their qb has played unreal and hines ward is all that

HOWEVER

they beat a cinci team that lost their qb on the 1st pass of the game

they beat an indy team that quit a week before xmas

they beat a denver team that shouldve been eliminated the week before

sure they won 3 on the road in difficult conditions but i feel all 3 were very flawwed at the time

seattle is an enigma as well

who knows how bad the nfc really is,we know the west sucks we know the central sucks and we suspect the east of sucking worse

that being said

theyve played 1 less game in the playoffs, that does matter at this stage of the season.

they run the ball very well and did at will against a stout carolina team

their defense has been grossly underated and has stopped everyone

its a crap shoot and its certainly no lock but with the more balanced team having what amounts to be an extra week of rest i like seattle to handle the steelers in a close game

im thinking 20-14

seattle and the under over here.

good morning crunchem-ta-dust!

alls quiet on the front! ya ya was hinting that we all should get together at fenway even if we don't have tix just to hang out and tip a couple...good idea if you ask me.. I love how the hawks are getting no respect...you wanna hear a quiet stadium when they jump out say 10 zip....gawd I hope so....I fkn hate pittsburg! don't be overly shocked if the chin lives up to his past history and takes it firmly you know where...seahawks have to really step up defensively...wish we could get RJ to come out of his fortress of solitude...
