Sooo Johnny has taken out a full page in today's Boston Globe taking the Red Sox fans. It has a faded pitcure of him in a Red Sox uniform with a letter over it that reads

Ok maybe its just because im a die hard sox fan, but that was it?? A note? Drew Bledsoe's heartfelt thankyou letter to the fans was longer and put even more thought into this. Sorry until I hear otherwise, its to save face considering his recent comment and salvage any type of standing ovation he think he will get here.

It was an attempt on Damon's part to replicate the class Drew Bledsoe showed when he was traded.

Damon's sentiment here is absolutely pathetic and misplaced.

You have to wonder if ARod's Image Consultants suggested Damon take out this ad to show the public what a class act he is. Even the most hardened Johnny Damon fans are gonna see thru this charade.

Like RS said - Drew's ad to the fans came from the heart and it was obvious to anyone who read it. This ad from JD is beyond pathetic and reeks of a publicists advice. Maybe his whore wife thought it was a good idea because God knows she's every bit as phony as the sentiment in this ad.

f*** Johnny Damon

JD should just keep his yap shut and play ball. We already have one media whore in the Bronx (Arod). Wish these guys in the pinstripes would learn, the Yankees were "quiet" during their last successful runs of the late 90's, leaving it on the field. These two "idiots" (ARod and now Damon) need to stay out of the press and perform on the field.

Like I said a few days ago let them talk all they want. All it does is cause problems for the Yankees.

Bud Light,

You're right

ARod has paid consultants that monitor his "public image" so it would not suprise me if Johnny was following in his footsteps.

That ad in this mornings paper was faker than Michelle Damons tits

that is true.. if damon returned the damon disciples or bandwagoners would have grown beyond my imagination. he was a chick magnet.. college girls thought it was the cool thing to like damon.. now he's a yankee and they are all off the boat.

the red sox thought logically.. 52 over 4 is too much for damon.

john

well f***, they offered him 44 for 4 . do you think 1.5 million a year extra would have mad a big difference in the sox wallet?I dont ,thats how much more it would have cost to keep him,WOW thats alot more, especially some of the salary the other sox players were getting ,dont blame him for leaving

I still can't hate Damon...I appreciate what he did while he was a Red Sox.

His add is not sincere IMO and is only meant to pacify the fans so when they play here May 1... is it...he won't cause a riot in Boston. It gets pretty rowdy when the Yankees come to Boston as it is. With Damon...I think you'll see more anger than ever. The add is all publicity to quiet the ensuing storm that will hit when they fist play here. Just my 2 cents

If that was his intentions, it will backfire, IMO.

I don't think it was his intention...but who ever specks for him now.

I agree.. it may backfire...I'm sure it's angered a lot of fans.

...just another thing to burn, I'm sure. I imagine most shops throughout New England have long since run out of Damon jerseys...

That gets me thinking...who really wants a Damon jersey anymore? Sox fans hate him now and Yankee fans still seem like they don't trust him...like he's gonna say "Oh, just kidding. I signed the contract under the name Phil Anderson!"

Until he heats up as a Yankee, next to no one will buy his jersey IMO...

Empty tribute

By Eric Wilbur, Boston.com Staff | February 8, 2006

It is certainly odd timing, to say the least. Former Red Sox center fielder Johnny Damon took out a full-page ad in today's Boston Globe thanking the fans whom he played in front of for four seasons. However, the gesture comes almost two months following his defection to the Yankees, which, while not technically an etiquette calamity, is a bit perplexing. Again, how can we miss him if he won't go away?

Dated Feb. 8, his letter reads: "Many thanks to the fans of New England and the city of Boston. It was an honor and a privilege." That's it.

Damon is not the first athlete to publish such an ad, of course. Most notably, Drew Bledsoe and Mo Vaughn made similar gestures on their way out of town. But those were submitted the same week as their departure, not 10 days before spring training with their new teams. Let's not forget this "honor and privilege" comes a week after he told the press in New York how unhappy Manny Ramirez is playing in Boston. He wants the slugger join him with the Yankees. David Ortiz, too.

It also comes a week after he said was starting to feel "like a Yankee" and was looking forward to discussing "the Yankee way" with team owner George Steinbrenner. It comes a week after he told radio host David Lee Roth how he and his kids shared a cry after he told them the Red Sox didn't want him.

Johnny Damon has spent all his time lately convincing himself and the world what a great decision it was to move on to the Yankees. If this is his desperate attempt at making sure he doesn't completely destroy his legacy in Boston -- a motion that would have been an act of class on Dec. 21 -- is today far too little, and much too late.

I feel like Damon broke up with the red sox and is still really uncomfortable. Sox nation is like the ex-girlfriend that he always truly loved, but he felt compelled to go toward the girl who puts out and doesn't demand the emotional ties that dating the Red Sox does.

I imagine Damon will forever pine for that again and project that he will not be a very happy yankee overall. He just is seeming to have a real hard time finding closure; hopefully he finds it when he recieves the initial mix of boos and cheers his first at bat.

It puts sox fans in a very difficult position. EVERYONE knows that, given what he did in Boston, he might deserve as long a standing ovation as any player in red sox history. Even williams never won a WS for the sox. His ovation SHOULD be much like the one Pedro will undoubtedly get upon his return. But it is ABSOLUTELY PUTRID to think about a standing ovation for any Yankee. I understand Roger got one, and I think yankees should get them upon retirement perhaps (Jeter should get a good one), but not a Yankee in his prime, ready and trying to beat the Red Sox. that is unacceptable. So I don't know what people will do. I imagine he will get a standing O, followed by boo's every time he comes to the plate.

Screw Damon. Oh I feel so bad that I stacked my wallets with a meaningless 12 million more cause it makes that much of a difference when you're going to make 40 million to begin with. Stick it where the sun don't shine Johnny. I hope you have the worst four years of your life in NY as the Sox win four in a row (more wishful thinking than likely reality, the championships I mean). If you really cared that much about Sox nation you easily could have taken the paycut to stay here. You and you're wife, who I liken to Mia Hamm, can go screw. Bring on the Coco.

Yeah congrats on finishing with the same record as us when we had 1 arm in the bullpen.

ya

it did wonders for carl pavano who missed the last 4months with tendonitis

it was wonderful for jose contreras who almost had a nervous breakdown

javier vasquez thrived in that environment

kevin brown should be ready for april as he was hell driven by thoughts of yanks glory

johnny d has spoken about boston in everyone of his interviews and talk shows

now he sends what amounts to an apology letter if you read thru the lines.

the bronx will turn on him if he comes out of the gates slowly and he wont feel the enigmatic love in the flowing cesspool of jerome ave as he did on yawkee way

but he has an extra 2 m per to fall back on

And the Yanks had 75% of their starting rotation on the DL

And the lightning in a bottle the Yankees lucked into with Chacon and Small wasn't better than what could be expected out of a healthy Pavano, Wright, and Brown? Please, if anything those injuries helped their cause when you consider how those two pitched down the stretch.

I'll give you your entire rotation back and take Mo away. I'd be willing to bet both my legs that the Yankees wouldn't have won the ALE.

You're absolutely right! You see while I'm a Yankee fan I don't always agree with personnel moves the team makes. Couldn't stand Brown, don't care for Wright and the jury is still out on Pavano. Just for future reference - I'll join in on any A-Rod bashing.
