If anything, the NFL is NOT trying to get on the Pats' side. They want as many different teams to win it every year as possible. It drives up interest. If the Pats' keep dominating it every year the NFL will eventually get pissed.

Although, if it did contribute to a Pats' win, Ben Watson would deserve praise every day for the rest of his life.

True, but I can't think of any reason why they would bring up that call. There is no clear cut answer. Only one guy had a good angle on the play, and he made a call that went the way of the Denver. One of the commentators drew a line from where the ball was, to where it went, and projected that it went out of bounds without going through the endzone. That's not definitive, obviously, but neither is any shot of the play from any of those camera angles. As for the Pass Inteference, perhaps it's karma for the AFC Championship against the Colts two years ago. :dunno: :D

edit: Colts/Patriots would've been a highly anticipated game. :)

2 years ago it was legal with downfield contact. They changed the rule last year to 5 yards. Take advantage of a rule that's not written, it works.

Hah, I preferably would have liked the Pats/Steelers because we would be playing at home....Ugh. The Denver f***in' Broncos.

I'm not taking anything away from the call, it definitely could have gone either way and I'm not saying THAT call was wrong, but as long as they're bringing it up, why not talk about it?

Anyway, because the ONLY AFC team I like is the Pats, and my favorite NFC team is the Panthers for the way they've turned around that franchise after going 1-15 a few years ago...GO PANTHERS.

EDIT: I just got my new Julius Peppers jersey in the mail over the weekend, and I wore it to school today :D

A guess isn't exactly enough to overturn a call, so there's no need to appologize. The NFL almost never comes out and says a call is incorrect. In fact, the last time they've done it was 3 years ago. It's obvious why they said it about the Polamalu interception -- but why for the Champ Bailey fumble? Because it contributed towards a Pats loss?

Talk about being hyper-sensitive. As a non-partisan reader of that quote, my take on it is that the fumble was mentioned because it affected the outcome of the game and there was some doubt about whether or not it was the right call. The point of the quote/statement was to address the fact that the officiating was less than stellar this weekend, and all game-changing plays with questionable calls were included in it. That is all. Enough with the conspiracy theories.

It's not an everyday occurence, and certainly not something that happens when there is no clear-cut answer (see: never). I just found it odd that they brought that play up because they almost always A. Take the side of the referee or B. Don't comment at all, particularly when there's not definitive conclusion that one can draw. Pardon me for finding it odd when the NFL, usually tight-lipped about these things, comes out and says something like that. I'm not saying there was a fix in for NE to win the game, just that it's odd -- it's odd no matter who the teams involved are.

Not to mention, the fact that no Patriots fan, SchillingouttheKs excluded, is capable of admitting that the better team won and having to incessantly defend my team is going to make me a little edgy when it comes to this subject. We won the majority of our games this year in a similar fashion to our win over New England Patriots, eventually you have to look at what we've accomplished and admit that it's not a fluke.

I believe it was illegal then, even. That game, in the eyes of many, just impacted how strictly they enforce it. Either way, I was only using that in a joking way, not so much to say that the way that game was called makes the way Saturday's game was called any better or worse or that they weren't worthy of the Super Bowl. If the refs give you slack, the team that takes it is going to be better off. Either way, the Pass Interference call can't possibly be justified -- it was a s***** call none-the-less.

As far as the NFL's announcement goes, there was no way they could let the poor performance of the ref's go without comment. Saturday's calls might have had some controversy, but Sunday's were horrendous. I'm sure you watched some or all of the games, you got to admit there were some horrible calls on Sunday.

I hate it when people generalize, with phrases like no, never, everyone, etc. I am a Pats fan. I chose not to comment on who's the better team because its an obvious answer. Teams that turn the ball over 5 times don't usually win an NFL playoff game ( or any game for that matter ). Out of the five, four were a direct result of the Denver defense. That isn't a bad bounce or a blown call, it's hard nose football. As fans, we've all seen that following a turnover, most teams will go for a quick score ( tends to demoralize a team ). Well that's exactly what Denver did. Just good football. But by doing this, their offensive statistics were somewhat skewed to the short field ( which they earned do to the defensive takeaways ). The Pats however, were usually starting from their 20-35 yard line. Thus, they continued to pile up yards and time of possession until the drive stalled, turned the ball over, or scored. Therefore, comparing the offensive statistics isn't relevant without considering the all important equalizer, the turnovers.

One last point. The Pats fans have in recent years been able to boast that the Pats were true champions because we not only beat the teams in the playoffs, but we beat them during the season as well. Well that is what Denver did to the Pats. As a Pats fan, I don't like it ( I won't resort to the lame excuse of "we were injured", because injuries are part of football ), but that's what happened. So yes, Denver was the better team. I'll watch till the Super Bowl, take a few weeks off, then it's Spring Training.

Nah, I love Peppers. I'll still wear it even if they do lose. But yeah, Carolina will go to the Superbowl. I don't know if they'll win, but they'll definitely get there. I think Holmgren is great, but John Fox is one of the most underrated coaches out there. Plus, I just think Carolina has a better overall team. Not to mention they're the best road team in the league.

I think that at their best, the Panthers are better than the Seahawks, but you never know what you're going to get out of them, which has been the case all year, so though I picked them, I was hesitant to. Seahawks are a great team, but I have to, whether fairly or not, discount them some because of their conference. Should be an amazing game, though. I hope Steve Smith tears them apart like he did Chicago. But if Seattle wins, I'll be happy for Element and the rest of the Seahawks fans. ;)
