the pitching and defense concept is a great one, obviously it just won the whitsox a championship. but why trade manny for defense. i think if you have one of the best pitching staffs in the game then turn around and have one of the most potent offenses ever that is better than holding teams to 2 runs agame and then scoring one. obviously even if we trade manny we wont be averaging one run a game but i like the idea of great pitching/great offense/mediocare defense rather than great pitching/great defense/and mediocare offense. whos with me?

So far the most in depth conversations the Red Sox have had involving Manny Ramirez have been with Baltimore for Miguel Tejada. I don't hear too many rumors involving Manny for strict defensive players. If the Red Sox wanted to trade Manny for a top pitcher I would be interested.

im not necessarily talking about the manny trade but more of the pitching and defense philosophy itself. manny just happens to be our best hitter and worst fielder so i thought i would bring his name up

I just hope that the Sox would not trade Manny for Mark Prior. If Prior is healthy, he's great, but his health is as unpredictable as Manny's desire to be traded.

I think that the only trade that makes sense is the one originally set for Tejada. The only problem with Tejada is that you are getting another Pedro Martinez...He always seems to be opening his mouth and saying something rediculous. The advantage that you have by keeping Manny is that he doesn't readily speak to the media. Tejada on the other hand loves the spot light and seems to speak without thinking first...

We traded Nomar for what was essentially defense and we won a world series. I'm not saying that we should trade Manny, but what they say is true. To paraphrase Bill Simmons, if you give a relatively equal team 2 to 3 extra outs per game, they will beat you.
