This wild off season may get even wilder. Buster Olney has been writing about Theo having second thoughts and then I listened to Gammons on WEEI Thursday say Theo is behind some of these trades and he believes Theo will be back as GM of the Sox.

Here is the link to WEEI archives and the Gammons interview:

i just posted a link to the boston herald site, which indicates the Sox will promote from within. It is expected to be announced within the next several days.

if petergammons says theo is coming back, rest assured he isnt. Peter gammons has never been right about a thing...he is the biggest windbag on this planet.

did anyone really ever think that theo was going to just "stop" managing? all these trade smelled terribly of theo..

No they didn't. Trading your best prospects is not a theo type move. He may be helping them within to get ready but let's hope shipley is good too.

hanley ramirez and anibal sanchez are just a part of our farm system which includes MANY more prospects. we might have lost our top ss prospect and one of our top 5 pitching prospects but we gained THE #1 prospect in the nation, one that plays the hot corner who has a higher upside than the both of them. not to mention we got a 25 yr old pitcher than has excelled (at times) in the majors.

I'm not saying it was a bad move. However theo told everyone his spects were off limits so it is not a theo type move.

that's what you say when you want the competition to up the ante :-D, if they know you are willing to let them go they won't offer you as much.

Sox work on return of Epstein

Ex-GM would be adviser to Cherington and Hoyer

By Gordon Edes and Chris Snow, Globe Staff | December 10, 2005

Red Sox ownership is working to bring back former general manager Theo Epstein in a consulting/advisory position, according to team sources.

Epstein would advise Jed Hoyer and Ben Cherington, the members of the Sox' baseball operations team who are expected to serve as co-general managers for the 2006 season, barring a last-minute reversal by ownership. It is not known whether Epstein, who on Oct. 31 declined a three-year, $4.5 million contract offer to remain as GM, has been formally approached yet by the team's principal owner, John W. Henry, or team chairman Tom Werner, but Henry and Werner have made their intentions known internally, the sources said.

It's the rumor that won't die untill we sign a GM. I don' think Theo is the one who came up with all these rades but I do agree with the whoever said these trades reek of Theo. These guys are supposed to be really tight with him, maybe they call him and ask him for his advice.

Their not bringing him back as GM, it's for an consulting/advisory position as RedSoxRooter's artilce says. It seems to me anyway, that this might be a way for Theo to still have some involvment in the team, and allow him and Sox organization to work out whatever problems they have for the next season. Maybe then they bring him back as GM
