I wonder if we do trade Ramirez what kind of rebuilding year we would be looking at, if any. What if Ortiz doesn't drop off because mannys protection is gone? I don't think its a guarentee that he will drop off at all, Ortiz is a hitter. A good hitter. I think its safe to say that if ramirez left that the sox would be acquiring guys in free agency that would fill holes now and they have the luxury, unlike the Guardians when they delt colon and let ramirez fo, of being able to spend a considerable amount of money on their team via free agency. That could be the difference between contention and rebuilding.

I really hope the new GM isn't a bonehead and spending fanatic like Dan Duquette. Granted, he got us Manny and all them, but in the end it left us in this position. It makes me wonder what Theo would have done with the team if he had to re-build. If re-building actually becomes the only option then we don't have to start from scratch.

I may be forgetting some but since we have the luxury of money we could fill all of the holes we have or trade Ramirez for some prospects or draft them and sign them.

I see the Sox using Shoppach as trade bait in the offseason. Something they really shouldn't do he's a good young catcher something we are going to need when we no longer have V-Tek behind the plate.

Yeah but not good cathers, but I agree with trading him, it's definitly unfair to keep him in the minors untill V-Tek's contract goes, way too long for the guy to rot down there.

If they hang on to Shopp, he won't be rotting down in the minors for the next 3 years. Mirabelli's contract is up after '06, which is, I believe, Shopp's last option year. Tek will be getting older and older, for catchers, and need more relief from his backup. Kelly could be his backup in '07-'08, and take over in '09 when Tek's contract is up.

Do you expect Shop to be happy sitting around for another 4 years? I'm sure he doesn't want to watch his prime pass him by while he's sitting on the bench. He's 25 years old, and I doubt he's going to want to wait till he's 30 to start in the bigs. I'm not saying that he'll go and bitch to the front office, but I think they realize he wont be a very happy camper, and will trade him.
