Downs, Blue Jays try to draw even

Toronto (75-78) at New York (90-63), 1:05 p.m. ET

After losing to New York in the series opener, the Blue Jays will play the Yankees on Saturday in the middle game of a three-game set. Scott Downs will take the mound for Toronto, looking to boost his record over the .500 mark for the first time this season. Downs has only two decisions in his last five starts, but those are both wins. He worked five innings in his most recent start, allowing seven hits and three runs during a 7-5 loss to the Mariners. He did not factor in the decision. The Yankees will counter with right-hander Jaret Wright, who will pitch for the first time since being hit in the right elbow by a piece of Eric Hinske's broken bat on Sept. 18.

Wright was forced to leave that start after 2 1/3 innings, and he took the loss after allowing four runs -- three earned -- and five hits.

4 straight singles, Matsui error, 3-0 Jays, no-outs, 2nd and 3rd

Combacker hits Wright, Hinske out at first, still 2nd and 3rd, 1-out. Wright's OK and staying in the game.

Wright gets a quick hook. He pitched 1+ IP and allowed 7 baserunners (6 hits, 1 BB ) and 7 runs (3 ER). Small is coming in with the sacks full and no-outs.

EDIT: All 3 runs scored, so I changed the stats.

Wells pops up, then Cano boots a potential DP ball. 2-runs score on the E4. 6-2, runners on the corners with one out.

I am the Yankee game thread.

Hinske's 2nd sac-fly, 7-2.

Brutal baseball today. Sloppy all around. If I had the money I would pay Wright out of my pocket if he didnt give up a first inning run(s). Wright might have pitched Small back into the roation with that proformence or lack there of.

Wright's got good velocity on his FB, but it doesn't move enough to make mistakes over the plate. He's got to paint to be effective, and he does at times but has always had streaky control issues.

Wow, Batista K's 4 in row to seal the win. We need to capitalize on this Yankee loss.

EDIT: spelling

 WOW...you make spelling mistakes too? :o

I say it in every game thread you/no one ever said anything before.....only when they lose.

ok now to the game....

I hope Fillipelli and the people at YES just take the tape to this game and throw it in the dumpster so years from now nobody ever knew it extsted. We needed this game, our lead is only a half a game right now. Like I said before Small was officially demoted to the pen, if Wright has a bad outing HE should go to the pen and then let Small take his spot in the rotation, and I stck to that now.

Batista was AMAZING
